Looking for others researching McFarlane clan that settled in Simpson Co., Ky., 1830s. Our name started out as McFarland and changed to McFarlin. Family patriarch was Matthew McFarland, born 1803 in N.C. married Mary "Martha" Dick (she was born 1807 in N.C.). They had 13 children: Mathew, Martha, James, William G., Amos, Luke, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Nelson, Henry, Mary F., Peter and Frances. Amos was my great-great-great-grandfather--he gave birth to Marion Oliver McFarlin and he gave birth to Marion Amos McFarlin, Sr., who gave birth to Marion Amos McFarlin, Jr., (my father). The family stayed in Simpson Co. for many years (Matthew and Mary are buried there) and gradually moved westward, finally settling around Waco, Texas, where many live now.
I want to find out where in Scotland Matthew came from--I have hit a roadblock on that.

Hi,

I am interested in Nelson Mcfarlin/Mcfarland. Did he marry several times? Ended up marrying Abigal Swim and had seven or so children in Cherokee Co., KS? Died in 1914 in Vinita, Craig Co., OK?

Love to hear from you if this is your family. I have been looking for years for Conrad Nelson Mcfarlin/Mcfarland.

Please email if you are.

Was your Henry Mcfarlin my great-great grandfather who was a medical doctor during the Civil War? He had a child named Mattie Hattie who married Frank Gattis. Their daughter was named Mattie Gattis and was my paternal grandmother but we lost track of her. Any info? I will be forever grateful! reply to profeileen@yahoo.com

Thanks, Shannon, for the reply. I have only found one reference in history books of my Dr. Henry R. McFarlin, Confederate Civil War surgeon in New Orleans. I know he existed and the names of his descendants, but can't find any of the living who have info. Good luck on your search.

Hi - I am a relative of the McFarlin family. My great-great grandfather was Marion T. McFarlin. I don't have the information you need. But,I know there is a book about the family you are researching in the Arlington Public Library in Texas. Its called "Genealogy of the McFarland Family" by Mary E Lawes. I am hoping to get a copy of the book myself - its about 51 pages. If I get it and find out where in Scottland the McFarlins are from, I'll let you know.
