John Douglas Carroll 1808 - 1885

Surnames: Carroll
I descend from John Douglas Carroll #3 through his 3rd ? wife Julia B Stedman.
In my limited Carroll research I had not run across the other 3 men of the same name.
My Carroll Family bible does mention an uncle Grief Carroll that I never could locate.
I know that John Douglas Carroll (Richmond) married Rachel McGill 2/13/1831 in Amite CO, MS and had one son Augustus C Carroll who died in Limestone County TX between the 1900 and 1910 censuses.
I know John Douglas Carroll also married Julia B Stedman 10/16/1837 in Adams County MS where he was a blacksmith. She was from Belpre, Washington CO, Ohio. They had 5 children before she died in 1852.
John Douglas Carroll (Richmond) then married Fernell or Ternalah Doggett 8/13/1853 in Shelby CO, TN and had 3 children, the youngest of whom Richmond Taylor Carroll died in Dallas TX in 1934 and his death certificate clearly gives his father.
I thought that John Douglas Carroll (Richmond) MAY have married Rachel Rennick 1/28/1828 in Hardeman County, TN. Several of the children of Richmond Carroll were in Tennessee at that time before heading into Mississippi then eventually Louisiana and Freestone CO, TX

any help appreciated.

I'm almost certain that Grief Carroll, son of Daniel and Martha Carroll was an early settler in what became Madison County AL. Carrolls also ended up in adjacent counties of Limestone, Lauderdale and Lawrence. I believe Grief's sons, Jacob, James, Richmond and William are enumerated in the 1830 Census of Madison County. Grief Carrell is enumerated in the 1820 Alabama Census living in Limestone County. Grief (spelled Gruss Carroll in the database) is on 1815 and 1816 tax rolls for Madison Co. There are recorded marriages between James and Rachel Edwards, and Richmond and Mildred McGee. This work is complicated by the existence of a Charles Carroll family apparently from SC in Madison CO at the same time.

Be aware that there is another Grief Carroll, son of Grief's son, William W.

If you are interested I have put together a spreadsheet of the descendants of Daniel Carroll in an attempt to keep straight who was whom and where they lived. If you're interested I'd be glad to share, but it's a work in progress certain to contain errors at this point.
