The Deese name is fairly common among the native people in SE NC. Historically, I think the name was married into the Native people of the area in the late 1700 and early 1800's. I have first cousins who are Deese people.

I'm searching for a John Deese. His birth dates of death are unknown. His wife name was Rachel. Her birth and death are also unknown. Their daughter was Mary Lou, born in 1868. Her birth place is unknown, but they lived in Corinth, MS for a time. Mary Lou married a James Steane Moses. They were married around 1889. She/They migrated to SE (Tishimingo, Oklahoma) around 1900. She later migrated to Southwest Texas, died and was buried in Del Rio, TX in 1941. Mary Lou's mother Rachel was Native American (Choctaw, according to family lore). Can anyone shed some light on this specific John Deese and Rachel ?

Since this message was written I've uncovered his middle initial was P and it is likely he was married twice. I've no idea which marriage was first. He was supposed to have been married to a Martha Beard. The family lore says they came from the Carolinas (South Carolina) and migrated west.

If anyone can help me with this

Thanks for the scoop. This does match with the limited information we already have in our files. I'll be more than happy to share what I have with you.

John P. Dees died in 1928. We show that Martha Beard was born in 1841 in Chesterfield County, SC, so she was actually older than John. She and John were married in 1864. We also show that even though she died in Arkansas (as he did), she was transported back to South Carolina for burial in 1910. We also know that John was re-married and since Martha died 18 years before he did, it's easy to believe. We show that his second wifes name was Rachel, but really know nothing else about her. The childrens names I have by Martha are Minnie lee, b - 1881, Espy, Mary Lou (my Great, Great Grandmother) , James L, Charley, Lonzo, Cora E, Sally. Mary Lou married a James Stean Moses. We don't have anything beyond James. I'm also looking for information concerning the Moses line of the family. We show that John Dees and his family ended up in Corinth, MS (which if I'm not mistaken, is in Tishomingo County) for quite some time. There are still Dees in the area.

John's father Dempsey Dees (my mother thinks the full name was John Dempsey Dees) was married to a Matilda Page in 1840 in Chesterfield co, SC. Matilda Page was also born in South Carolina, but in 1822. Matilda's father was John and her Mother was Temperance. Dempsey and Matilda's children were Alexander Lloyd, Chapman, Allen, John P Dees (my Great, Great, Great grandfather) , Sheppard, Ellen, James Dempsey, Talton Cutis Tillie.

Unfortunately, I have nothing beyond that, but my mother will be going through Census records to see what she can find. I'll be glad to share anything I find. I have nothing at all on Emanuel Dees.

If you have any further information concerning any of these people and you've mentioned and the details of their lives, I would sincerely appreciate the information.

Let me know and thanks.

My mother's family is originally from NC, sheis a Locklair, but the name was spelled Locklear at one time. Her father was a John
Bunyon Locklair and her mother was Anna Deas. I think they spelled their name Deese at one time also. I haven't been able to trace my mother's mother's family back any furthur than that.

I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me on this family.
In the 1880 census of Monroe Co. Ms. I find a
Matilda Dees(Deese?) age 35 b. Al.
J.M. (son) age 18
Emery (son) age 10
I'm assuming she is a widow. In 1888 she married my G-grandfather William McDonald. They lived in Monroe Co. until their deaths. William sometime after 1913 and Matilda in 1919. They are buried in the Hatley cemetery in Monroe co. Does anyone know who Matilda may be and who she was married to before William McDonald? OR what happened to this J.M and Emery? Any help would be appreciated.

I have quite a bit of information on the Emanuel Dees lineage (1675). Let me know what you need. Maybe we can fill gaps in each other's family lineage.
