I have information about Casper Walkenhorst of Cincinnati, Ohio. In researching my great-grandfather, Frank Henry Walkenhorst (went by Henry), I have copied a lot that I have found about other Walkenhorsts as possible relations. Here is what I have about Casper H. Walkenhorst:

1880 census:
Casper (b. 1822, Hanover, occupation: carpenter)
Wife = Kate (b. 1824)
Mimmie (b.1860, occupation:housekeeping)
Henry (b. 1861, occupation: showcase)
Lizzie (b.1865, occupation: sewing)
Fred (b. 1869)
Willie (b. 1871)

Williams Street Directory, Cincinnati 1917:
Casper H. (produce) 61 E. McMicken Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio

Williams Street Directory, Cincinnati 1879:
Casper (carpenter) 28 Hughes, Cincinnati, Ohio

Burial at Vine Street Hill Cemetery:

Frank 1863-2/11/1866, grave 4 296 1
H. Louis 1865-9/14/1866, grave 4 296 x
Casper Jr, stillborn, s/of Casper & Catherine, 1867,

Clifford, res & d. Ft. Thomas Ky c remains dob 3/8/1885, 1885-6/22/1980, grave 4 296 20
Catherine, 1824-11/22/1908, w'd/o Casper (No grave site listed)

(These are from the list of Walkenhorsts buried at Vine Street Hill Cemetery. The man there said that if the grave sites are the same, then the people are part of the same family. All of these people have the same site [4 296], as Casper.

I think that Casper may be Frank Henry Walkenhorst's father, which would make him my g-g-g-grandfather.

Frank Henry was born in Prussia in 1851. I am trying to find information about when he migrated and who his parents were.
Frank Henry Walkenhorst married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Kuhn. Their children were Maggie, Clara, Mamie, Edward, and Albert.
Albert Walkenhorst married Josephine (McGraw or McGrew). (They are also buried at Vine Street Hill Cem.) Thier children were Elizabeth, Margaret, and Albert Jr. (Bud.)
Elizabeth H. Walkenhorst married Edward Gross. Thier children are Nancy and Roger.
Roger is my father.

If you think there may be a possible relation, or if you are interested in some of my research, just let me know.

Laura, do you know who Caspar Walkenhorst's brothers and
sisters were? I am looking for my g-g-g grandmother Anna or Anne Walkenhorst records of birth or marriage or death. She married my ggg grandfather Fredrich/Fredric/Friedrik (don't have middle names on these) Brockschmidt. Born abt 1806-1809. Place is not certain either. Somewhere in Hannover
or the Hamburg region?? Neither of them came to America.
My gg grandfather came to America with his brother. They
were John Herman(as Herman) who was my gg grandfather,
and John Henry about 1848. Came thru New Orleans? Made way up to Illinois, Missouri. John Herman was born: April 28, 1832. John Henry was born abt 1830 or early 1831.
I have info on 2 different lists of decendents on the Brockschmidt family. However, there are not dates of births of brothers of the family. There are some Fredrics. Variations of the spelling of the name. But I can't pinpoint if the family is even the same region of where mine came from as yet. We are trying to connect the Brockschmidt's. Some changed the name to Brocksmith in about 1861, some 1871, some in 1878
I would appreciate any and all help from anyone with any information on the Walkenhorst side, with any German information, or on the Brockschmidt as well. I am at a loss.
As my whole family did not come to America. Only the 2 boys. They stayed in the Venedy, Quincy, St. Louis, and
Herman married Mary Elizabeth Kemper from St. Charles in
abt 1851. Was in Sedalia Civil War papers show muster 1861 to 1863 in the Union Army Co. K 27rgt Mo, Infantry Mounted. He died in Carrolton, Mo. March 16, 1893. No Certificates of death at Mo, archives. Anyone needing any info on anything I might have, conntact me. Cindy (Brocksmith) Mitchell

Hi Cindy,

It sounds like you have hit a block too. I have substantiated my Walkenhorst line to Frank Henry Walkenhorst 1849-1914. He migrated at age 4 from Prussia and lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Kuhn and they had 10 children, but only 5 lived.

Originally, I thought that he was the son of Casper Walkenhorst, but now I don't think so. However, in the process I have collected a lot of info about Casper's family.

I will post what I have learned here and then email you the information in MS Excel format, and I hope it will help you out.

Some confusion exists because there were three Walkenhorst families and all have people named both Henry and Lizzie. All three families are buried at Vine Street Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, but their relationships have not been substantiated.

The Walkenhorsts first appeared in Cincinnati between 1859-1861, according to the Williams Street Directory. These may have been brothers or relatives: Joseph 1858, C. Henry 1859, Franz 1861, Frank 1866, Fred. 1867.

The 1880 census shows the following 3 families:

Casper 58 (Carpenter) = Kate 56
Mimmie 20
Henry 19
Lizzie 15
Fred 11
Willie 9
Mary 17 boarder
Jacob Lubert 24 other

Henry 29 (Teamster) (whole name is Frank Henry) = Lizzie 28
Maime 8
Maggie 6
Clara 1
(Later Albert in 1887, he's my gg grandfather)

Henry 40 (cigar maker) = Lizzie
George 11
Sophia 8

Vine Street Hill Cemetery

Grave 4 296, 14 plots
Casper's family

Grave 11 167 and 9 429, 4 plots
Henry's family

Grave 18 26, 2 plots
Frank Henry and his wife

I will email you the spreadsheet, which contains a lot of information that I got from the census, burial records, and the Williams Street Directory. If anyone else needs it, just let me know.
