The late Willard Sickelsteel was born in Berlin township, Ionia county, Mich., September 22, 1851, making him fifty-nine years old at the time of his death, which occurred Oct. 26. His father died when he was five years of age, leaving a wife and large family of children. He being the only son was left as soon as he was old enough to fill the place of both father and brother, which place he filled most nobly. At the age of thirty-five he moved to Lake Odessa, where he lived eighteen years, during which time he operated a blacksmith and carriage shop. Six years ago he moved on what is known as the Hewitt farm near Otsego where he was living at the time of his death.
He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss: Mrs. Elsie Lambley of Lake Odessa and James Sickelsteel of Globe, Arizona-children by a former wife, and Ethel, age nine, by his present wife. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Gordon of Morley, Michigan, and Mrs. H. C. Purves of Alma. He was a loving husband, kind father, and a generous friend.
Mr. Sickelsteel joined the Odd Fellows# twelve years ago at Lake Odessa. He was also a member of the National Protective Legion# and the Grange#.
The funeral was held from the Congregational church Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the I. O. O .F. Rev. C. M. Taylor delivered the discourse. Burial was not made until Monday, on account of the late arrival of the son of the deceased from Arizona.
