LOOKING FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON EDWARD AND ROBERT LESSIG/LAESSIG.
Edward L. Laessig, the patriarch of our central Wisconsin USA Laessig
clan, was born in Saxony, Germany 5 July 1835. As a young man he came to
America in the year 1855 according to the 1860 Chicago, Cook County,
Illinois census records. It is possible that he came with his brother
or cousin, as a record of two young men has been found, "Eduard age 21"
and "Robert age 24" sailed from Bremen to New York on the ship "Orpheus"
arriving in the USA 1 September 1855. His naturalization papers have not been located. According to family, it was
in Chicago that Ed met Jeanette Baenen, born 6 January 1836, an
immigrant from s'Hertogenbosch, Holland. Her parents were Francis J.J.
Baenen b. 15 Oct. 1806 - d. 14 Nov. 1887 and Clara Vande Vaart b. 28
Sept. 1803 - d. 24 Jan. 1851. Jeanette immigrated with her father,
step-mother, Cornelia (Van Grunderbeek) and siblings. Jeanette remained
in Chicago and married Edward circa 1856 or 57, and her family moved to
the town of Scott, Brown County, Wisconsin, to a small village known as
Bay Settlement, near Green Bay. Later Ed and Jeanette relocated to a
small community of Weber or Webertown located in Marathon County, WI where
they remained and raised their family.

I would like any information on Edward/Eduard and Robert Laessig, contact
with descendants of either/both. Please email me at anaquea@dwave.net.

We are researching the Lessig family from
Pennsylvania. George Philip Lessig (Lassig)
may have arrived in America on the ship
"Chance" on September 9,1765 along with a
Christian Lassig. This is where our family starts out. There were afew families that moved west, the one we are researching right now John M. Lessig who moved to Wisconsin
about 1865 - 1867. According to the information we have he started a brick making business which closed upon his death in 1916. If you would be interrested in the
the family, I can send a brief family report.

Hello Bruce,
Thank You for responding to my query. Yes, I am most interested in any of the Lessig, Lassig, Laessig families that came to Wisconsin. So far I have not been able to connect with any of them, but then, a missing link may be all one needs to accomplish that. Please send information to me at anaquea@dwave.net or send me an email and I will send my mailing address. Thanks very much. Perhaps I can fill in some information for you too. Patti Laessig

Hello Patti,
Thank you for your quick response. If you
want to send us your mailing address we will
mail you a short descendant report along with
the family pages so you can check on their
families. John M. was a brother to my girl-
friend's G.grandfather Peter Lessig. There
is another brother, Enos Lessig, that moved
to Ellsworth, Kansas.

Patti,

I'm a direct descendent of the Lessig's from WI. Yes John M. ended up in Rudolph, WI. They had a brick making business that flourished until his death. My family still owns the land and have a house there.

Hi Linda,

I have been searching the Lessig, Laessig, Lassig families for quite a few years trying to find if these families are connected. My great grandfather was Edward Laessig who came to America in 1855 with Robert Laessig. On the ship's manifest their names were spelled "Lessig", but my gr. grandfather spelled his name with the 'ae'. He settled in Chicago, then Green Bay, and eventually Marathon County. I don't know if he and John Lessig were connected, but it is possible. I have not been able to find Edward's place of birth or parents names so that makes it very difficult to connect him to the other Laessigs. If you would like to correspond by direct email, my address is anaquea@dwave.net
