I am third generation. First was Thomas Kilroy who married Catherine Carmody. They lived in Lambertville, NJ.at the turn of the century. They had four sons: Thomas, James, John and Donald. The first generation Thomas Kilroy settled finally in Saranac Lake, Ny. Two sons joined him, John and James. Donald went to NYC and Thomas stayed in New Jersey.Any connections? m

Joan,
You may have a connection. Are you by any chance a "Hamill", related to the Schneyman's of NY? All part of a Kilroy clan. The names you list are all so familiar.

Thanks, Michael for responding. My father's parents were Thomas and Catherine Carmody Kilroy. the couple separated in 1904 and dad and his brother, James, were placed in a Catholic orphanage in Lambertville, NJ. Interestingly, the Hamills took him in to live with them. He stayed with two unmarried sisters until enlisting in the navy. Following his service, he located his father, and relocated to Saranac Lake, NY to live with him.

Hello Joan,
I got your reply, thanks. I'm curious about Thomas Kilroy. My great grandfather, Michael Joseph Kilroy born about 1851 in DE, had a brother Thomas Kilroy, born about 1843 and a sister, Catherine born 1845 in Ireland. Their parents were Michael Kilroy b1820 and Mary ?(maybe McHale) b1816 in Ireland. They came to the US in 1846 and lived in Delaware then moved to NY City. I've seen a directory with Michael Thomas living together in NY in 1869 as carpenters. Michael moved to Baltimore and don't know anything else about Thomas. Does any of this connect?
Thanks.
Michael

I'm sorry, none of your details match mine. However, there appears to have been only one set of names for all Kilroys here and in Ireland. As I read all the messages, I am struck by the similarities in names. Our Kilroys also ended up in NYC and worked for the police dept. I must also comment that until this site and this message board, my family thought there were only a few Kilroys around. Not so. Happy hunting and good luck.

the Hammills are cousins and they raised Thomas Kilroy. Hammill was a sister to Catherine Carmody. I am hoping you are connected to our tree. Joan

I am researching my husbands family and he is part of the Kilroy family in Saranac Lake, NY, his great grandmother was Leona and Thomas was his great grandfather. We are trying to figure out how they were related to Agnes Kilroy and her son James. Any help would be appreciated. His grandfather was Thomas' son Carlton Kilroy
