You would not by chance have a Zenide Gamache in your family tree, her birthdate was May 1851, she married a Joseph Miron Sr. and lived in Delta county area of Michigan.

Dear Monique, I was startled to see your name , since I have a neice that has the same name. My brother is decended from William Gamache of Manchester NH. He has been to a village des Gamaches in France, but there were no more Gamaches left. He also has been told that there is another village des Gamaches some where in France, as yet he has not had the opportunity to pursue it.

I am a decendent of Nicolas Gamache Lamarre. He was born in France in 1636. He was the son of Jacques Gamache and Jacqueline Cadot.
He arrived in Canada in 1652 with his brother, Jacques and sister, Genevieve. His parents were originally from Saint Illes-la Ville in the diocese de Chartres Ille De France in France.
For 15 years Nicolas Gamache was a fur trader in Upper Canada (now Laurentians). In 1670, he received a parcel of land from his brother-in-law, Julien Fortien. Julien Fortien, at the time, was Master of Belle Fortaine and Co-Lord of La Cote de Beaupre et Ille de Orleans.
Nicolas Gamache was later given a large tract of land at Lislet, at which time his land holdings grew to be immense. At that time in history, he was known as the first Lord of Lislet which was a large Colony in New France (Quebec). The events took place in the time of Jean Talon.
Again, his holdings grew to be of such immense proportion that the Arch Bishop of Quebec whose name (Francois de Montmorency-Leval) had to set up a Parish to accommodate the people. The Parish was named Cap St. Ignace.
Nicolas Gamache gave a parcel of land for the first Parish Church of St. Ignace. It was a wooden structure that burned and was later replaced by a stone chuch. Upon his death, Nicolas Gamache was buried in this church. This chuch stood until 1744 when it was destroyed by eroding sea tides. There remains to this day, the foundation, only visable at low tide.
Nicloas Gamache Lemarre shortened his name to Nicolas Gamache. He was the first Gamache to arrive in Canada and all "Gamache" are decendents of this man.
