I spotted the name of Champlin, and that it is not that
common of a name, it is on my paternal - paternal
grandparent side and that I also have Clark's on the
paternal-maternal side of my father's family. If you have
any of these names please let me know. My ancestor Champlin
was originally from Connecticut. His name was William Aaron
Champlin born in 1809, he left home at 13 to ride ship as a
mate and later when grown became a captain. He met his wife,
Margaret Smith, on one of his trips between New Orleans and
Liverpool, England. They first settled in New Orleans but;
later moved to Mississipi City, MS in Harrison Co., MS.

He was not only a seaman but; a business man , a politician,
a landowner and held office in the State legislature.

William and Margaret had eight children: Margaret E.,
William A. Jr., Anthony P., Lewis H., Edward T., Charles C.,
Zachary T., George W. Champlin all born between 1835 - 1850.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I, too, am trying to figure out the Clark(e) genealogy. I am stuck on the link between Joseph Clarke (born 10/20/1694), married to Nicholls, and Joseph Clarke, born 12/9/1618. They all were living in the Newport/Westerly RI area. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

I share descent from Joseph Clarke and Bethiah Hubbard through their son Samuel Clarke (1672-1769) and Samuel's son Joseph Clarke (1705-1783) and Joseph's son John Clark (1740-1836, Capt. Rev War, married Sarah Gardner), and Capt. John Clark's son John Clark (1772-1856, who married Elleff Calkins and died at Lorraine, Jefferson Co., NY) and through John Clark Jr.'s daughter Sarah Clark (1798-1876, who married John Bebee at Lorraine, NY in 1817 and died in DeKalb Co. Illinois). I want to talk to anyone interested in this family, especially 1) who was Elleff Calkins? and 2) who was John Bebee?

Sara...unfortunately I have no answers to your questions but I was wondering if you have run across a Justice CLARK in your investigations. We can track our ancestry through his wife, Sarah STEERE but on the CLARK side we only know that Justice came to Laurens, Otsego Co, NY from RI...this according to an 1880 census when he was 54. Any info appreciated.

i dont know if this links up ,but there is a headstone in the family plot here that reads : mother -mercy ann champlin-wife of william clark- born set.1800 in stonington,conn.-died feb.22,1880-age 80 years,5 months,8 days. (read off of photo i took and some print is small on dates). there was also a headstone aproxamitly 15 feet behind her wich seems to be a daughter named lucy? both of these are in a small cemetary here in wisconsin in winnebago county bordering waushara and greenlake counties. if it is of use let me know and i would be happy to look into them further. they are near the smith's and goucher plots (my great grandmother was isabell (smith) harrington. ironicaly my great-great-great grandfather john harrington was from rhode island and buried in that area. john's son nathaniel harrington (my g-g grandfather)and his neice married into the mosher family. sincerly, todd
