I am looking for the cemetery where William Nathan Clodfelter is buried. A source says that he is buried in Independence but do not have the location. He died September 23, 1896 and his wife, Malinda Miller Clodfelter, died in 1897. They came to Oregon with two sons, Francis Marion Clodfelter (d. April 19, 1930 and buried in Dallas) and Noah Oliver Clodfelter (d.July 20, 1907 and is said to also be buried somewhere in the Independence area). I am from the Francis Marion Clodfelter family. Can anyone help me confirm dates or locations?

I have also just started looking for the cemetery. Have you found it? Your posting was from several years ago. I am a descendant of William and Melinda's son John W. Clodfelter.

From: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~orpolk/HilltopCemetery.htm

I was at Hilltop Cemetery a few years ago and saw some Clodfelters buried there. Near Noah's grave there was a sunken area that we thought might be where William Nathan and Matilda are buried. From the above website I found the following:
Clara E. Clodfelter Sep 5, 1846-Aug 6, 1932 Mother
Noah O. Coldfelter Jun 17, 1843-Jul 20, 1907 Father He died as he lived a Christian
Clarence V. Clodfelter 1897-1944
Clodfelter Nov 1, 1907-Nov 5, 1907 Son of C.V. & A.M.
Clodfelter Jul3-Sep 25, 1904 Daughter of C.V. & A.M.
D.H. Clodfelter Mar 1, 1853-Dec 10, 1895 Gone but not forgotten
Clodfelter Nov 1-5 1907 Son of G.U. and A.M. Coldfelter
Clodfelter Jul 3-Sep5, 1904 daughter of G.U. & A.M. Clodfelter
B.H. Clodfelter Mar 4, 1853-Dec 5, 1894 Gone but not forgotten

The Clodfelter family was living in the Independence area during the time that William Nathan and Matilda passed away - so Hilltop would probably be the place they would be burried.

On a related note - not sure why William Nathan is sometimes refered to as Nathan William.

I looked up the Clodfelters in my Polk County Cem books and found them in Hilltop and Smith Cemetery. Sending att for Hilltop.
Smith Cemetery:
Clodfelter, Baby; no bd; died Apr 1895
Clodfelter, P (Palmoa?) no bd; died 25 Sep 1905

Checked findagrave.com there are some Clodfelters for Hilltop didn't check Smith.

Here is the funeral home who might have William and Malinda's info may be scant info. I was lucky with my ggrandfather they had his death date back to 1905. Before I am not sure but would be worth a try.
