Arden Wayne Davis was born on Aug. 4, 1921, in Willow Township, Cherokee County, Iowa to LeRoy and Dora (Jackson) Davis. The family moved to Volgar, S.D. and then to Cove where he attended school. Arden enlisted in the United States Army in 1944 where he was a medic until his honorable discharge in May of 1946. He married Shirley Giddings on June 26, 1948, at the Giddings family home. The couple farmed for many years and Arden worked at various jobs during this time to help make ends meet. They spent one year in logging in Montana with Shirley’s parents and one season cutting Christmas trees in Park Rapids. Both of them worked at the Crestliner Boat Factory in Little Falls until Arden became disabled in a roofing accident. The couple then worked from home where they made and sold wood picture frames and shelves. Arden enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, playing the harmonica, reading and woodworking.
