I have just learned that Peter Ellingson QUARNE was married in 1880 in Elbow Lake, MN. Are there are any church records for this marriage? The family was Lutheran and Norwegian.

I believe the Norwegian Lutheran records for Elbow Lake would be at United Lutheran Church. Check the churches page for the phone number/address.

Grant Co. MN: Edward E. Quarne and Anne (Smallberg) are my great-grandparents. They had four children, Peter Julius (uncle Julius), Edwin Bernard (Bennie)(my grandfather), Caroline (Mrs. Eric Anderson), and Alice (Anderson). The story my mother tells is that Anne and Edward were on their way to Oregon but only got as far as Elbow Lake, MN. Anne got homesick and wanted to go see her parents one more time. When they arrived at the Smallberg homestead, near Blair, WI they found it up for auction and bought it on the courthouse steps, I believe in Whitehall, WI (Trempealeau Co). This is where my mom grew up, uncle Julius eventually bought the farm next door, and the girls married the Andersons and also lived nearby. I have tons of cousins and relatives in the Blair area and some of them have done much genealogy work. I'm just starting. If you have any more information I'd appreciate it. My mom doesn't know about Peter, Gertie, and their son Charles, but I imagine Peter was my great-grandfather's brother. I'm having no luck finding Quarne's anywhere! My mom thought they changed the name from Ellingson to Quarne at some point.

Ask one of my Anderson cousins for my address. I may have some information to share on Edward and Anne Quarne.

I was reading your query and found that I might have some info.
The farm name BLEKTVEDT was the same farm of my great great great grandmother's second husband Arne Olsen 1815-1849. also I have a photo of a John Aas taken ca 1900 in Grand Forks ND. My grandmother's sister Rosine Sanden/Jorde had lived on a farm near Towner.
If and of this is familiar you can contact me at

My maiden surname is also Moen and my family lived outside of Elbow Lake, Minnesota. Might we be connected in some way?
