I'm new to this and am looking for some help locatinginformation on Harry J Parnell and his wife Irene Pateman Parnell. Ihave a date of 1872 which I believe is when they went to Kansas on a government land grant but later returned to New York. I believe in the Sleepy Hollow area. They had a son George William Parnell born on 10/21/1870. He married Hattie lewis Parnell(dob 8/11/1872). I will take any info anyone may have!! Thanx !! Please email me at

I am also researching the Parnells & Patemans. Harry & Irene are my husband's 3rd great grandparents. I would love to hear from anyone with any infromation on ancestors or decendents.

Right now I am stuck at Irene's mother, Harriett Fraser Pateman. She was born in New York, yet I have not been able to find any information as to her ancestry. Don't even have her parents names, but they were born in NY.

I am also stuck on the name of Irene's daugher Mabel's husband. I know his surname was Wall and that he died before 1910, but that's all.

Again, any help would be appreciated, and I will be happy to share with anyone what I have found too.

My father's grandparents were George Parnell and Harriet (also known as Hattie) Lewis Parnell. They are buried in West Avon, CT.

My father's great granparents are Harry J. Parnell, born 2/29/1840 and Irene Pateman born 4/28/1849 from Tarrytown, NY.

My father's mother was Harriet Parnell Caruso. She married my father's father Michael J. Caruso, Jr. and they lived in Tarrytown NY where my father was educated and graduated from Washington Irving HS. They moved to Hartford, CT where Harriet died at an early age of 43. Harriet had two sisters, May and Mabel who married the Caine brothers and resided in Winsted, CT.

My Dad died in June of this year and my Mom has been finding all sorts of information, especially a photo of the Parnell cemetary monument in Sleepy Hollow Cemetary.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Very much so!

You and my husband, Greg, are 3rd cousins, once removed. Harry & Irene are his 3rd great grandparents. George Parnell's sister Mabel, the only one who was born while they were in Kansas following the civil war, raised my husband's grandmother. She grew up in the Tarrytown area too. My mother-in-law was born in Hartford, where her grandmother lived.

So sorry about your dad's recent passing.

I would love to share information - in fact I sent you an invitation to view my tree with no restrictions for living people, so you can see the information and photos for everyone. Send me an email if you'd like to share family tree information.
