I am looking for a John MARTIN, of the Martin family from the White Hills area near Quidi Vidi in St. John's. I believe that several siblings of this family moved to the Halifax area.
The first to move would have been Hannah Martin who married George Phillips, a bookbinder from Devon. They moved to Halifax about 1836 and were probably the reason some other MARTIN siblings came. I have found the headstones for both George and Hannah Phillips in Halifax.
The death of a William Martin was also reported in the Times & General Commercial Gazette in St. John's on 2 Dec 1874. No age was given but a note was also for "Halifax Papers Please Copy". So I assume I need to look for something in the Halifax newspapers in December 1874.
Finally, is anyone out there with access to a Halifax newspaper circa October 16 1879. I believe that this John Martin was a brother to Hannah Martin PHILLIPS

I have checked the free online resource novascotiagenealogy.com without success for this family and specifically John's death in October 1879.
Any suggestions, feedback, directions gladly received to resolve this 9 year quest.
