For anyone that is interested, there is a Porter Family cemetary in Louisiana. It is outside Slidell. MY understanding is that it is not far from the interstate and it is on Porter Rd. My Grandfather, Oscar Porter, 85, has been mowing it and maintaining for a very long time. I can get more specific directions and also it is my undastanding the some of the graves are marked with stones and some are not. Susie:o)

Susie, I would be delighted if you could give me directions to the Porter Cemetery. I assume it is in Pearl River but I do not know exactly where. I would also appreciate any other information concerning the Porter family that resided in this area as my husband is a descendant. I live very close to Pearl River, Louisiana and my husband's family's roots are from the Slidell, Louisiana area. Thanks in advance. Nancy B. Bell

I'm probably your cousin, I am a direct descendant of Roger "Friday" Porter Founder of Friday's Ditch located in I think in St. Tammany Parish or somewhere around there, my mother knows most of the history. Friday was my mother's 4x great grandfather my grand mother was Ruth Octavia Porter and she had five other siblings which are all deceased now. The man you read about doing grounds keeping at Porter Cemetery was my great uncle Robert. My mother knows the history of the Porter family name which all trickles down from Roger Porter. I keep forgetting to get the family tree from my mother when I do I will post. My uncle Robert had the family bible that dated as far back as the early 1800's the bible is so old that the pages are very fragile. I believe my aunt Margaret has the bible now. When I get more information I will be sure to share
