Halloran-Burke Scarriff, County Clare, Ireland

Looking for any ties to a Thomas Halloran born August about 1847, married a Mary Burke, her parents are Michael Burke and Elizabeth Long, i believe from Whitegate. I believe Thomas and Mary married in 1872 in Scarriff. Thomas came first to Middletown, Conn., and Mary followed a few years later with children: Edward, Michael, Thomas, Mae/Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, Margaret, and John. Does this sound familiar to anyone in this area.

Thanks, Karen

Scarriff, Co. Clare is a Poor Law Union (later Civil Registration District)

Griffith Valuation: took place in Co. Clare in 1855, Thomas would not of been old enough to occupy his own land.
There are 10 Burke/Bourke living in the Parish of Tomgraney
and 6 Long's. Usually marriages take place in the bride's parish.
I don't see in all the townlands in the Union but in place names there is a Whitegate a townland in the Union of Scarrif but in Co. Galway. Often Unions which cover a 12 mi. area can extend into another county. The Parish in Galway is named Clonrush.

Co. Clare does not have bmd's listed on one particular
Irish HistoryFoundation that operates a database for most
Irish Counties, only 4 don't belong. I know of one Parish that has its own website and parish records on line.

A google gives a family named Burke with an estate Tintrim in Galway up until 1898 now is in the Barony of Tulla Upper in Clare.

(any stories of the family owning an estate-more info on

The Clare Library appears to have birth and marriage records for the RC Parish of Clonrush, Diocese of Killaloe from
1846-1880. I don't know if they do research or it is in person only?

Thomas Halloran married 1872 Scarriff LDS vol.4 Pg. 493

Mary Burke married 1872 Scarriff matching numbers

The Clare telephone books shows about 80 Burke's and Halloran's however, there is one Burke listed for Meelick, Whitegate!! and at least one Halloran but listed as O'Halloran in Scarrif, addresses given sufficient for mail delivery. More careful look through will give you places
surrounding Scarriff. Two a good start though.

1901/1911 Census: for those still in Ireland.
