My brother forwarded your message. My grandfather was Antonio Fantacone, born in 1896 in Mirabello Sannitico, Campobasso Province. His brother, Luciano, was born in 1892. Both came to the US when they were 17 years old, and lived in Jersey City, New Jersey, then Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Their parents were Mariangela Angiolillo and Raffaele Fantacone. Rafaelle's parents were Giuseppe Fantacone and Maria Giovanna Iademarco. Raffaele had no siblings who survived to adulthood. Giuseppe's siblings (who survived to adulthood) were Pitrangelo, b. 1818, d. 1881, married to Maria Giovanna Di Lella; Carolina, b. 1824, d. 1850, married to Pietrangelo Di Lella; and Francesca, b. 1839, d. 1886, married to Raffaele Fierro. Giuseppe's father was Michele Fantacone, d. 1846 at age 53, married to Sabina Tolosino. Michele's father, also named Michele, died by 1819. Mariangela Angilillo's parents were Giovannantonio Angiolillo and Emanuela Torzone. As far as I know, all the Fantacones in my family were born in Mirabello, in an area called Calle Laura, in San Pietro Strada.

Antonio married Rosa Ronzo, whose family was from Monte San Giacomo, Salerno Province, Campania. Luciano married Rosa's sister, Maria.

I grew up in a town called Wood-Ridge, in Bergen County, New Jersey. A family named Laury (originally Acquavino), who had previously lived in the Syracuse area, told us that there were Fantacone families in the Syracuse area, and that, as far as they knew, all of them had come from Mirabello Sannitico. I understand that the surname "Fantacone" is very common in Mirabello and in Campobasso, but is not common elsewhere in Italy.

Please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be interested in knowing about your husband's family. Several of my cousins and I have been doing some research. Some of my family and I are planning a trip to Italy, which will include at least a 4-day stop in Mirabello.

Hi, Nina,

I started writing an e-mail, but must have hit the wrong button, so if you get this message twice, I apologize.

My great grandmother was Mariangela Angiolillo, born in Mirabello Sannitico in 1859, the daughter of Govannantonio Angiolillo and Emanuala Torzone. She married Raffaele Fantacone in 1881. She came to the US in 1932, after Raffaele died.

Mariangela had a sister, Michelina, who married Giuseppe Zingaro (also from Mirabello Sannitico). They emigrated to the US & lived in Jersey City, NJ. Mariangela also had at least three brothers - Tomasso, Pepino (Giuseppe), and Nicolino (Nicola). Tomasso was married to Maria Carmela Romano, Giuseppe was married to Maria Iademarco, and Nicola was married to Carmela Rossi.

At some point, it appears that at least some of the family moved to Campobasso, as we have Campobasso addresses for cousins with the surname "Angiolillo." Do you have any more information about your great grandmother, Teresa-angela? Do you know when she was born, or where, or her parents' names? I have microfilms of Mirabello records which I can check, if she or her parents were born there. Certainly, it is possible that these families are connected. By the way, I was told (and later found records that confirm) that the Angiolillos originally came from the town of Cercepiccola, which is a neighboring town of both Mirabello and Campobasso in Molise.

Sorry it took so long to respond, but I hope this is helpful.

Researching for my 95 yr old friend. Her Gr-mom or GGr-mother is Francesca Angiolillo wed to Bennedetto Grossi. Also looking for more of her family from Venafro and Casale in Campobasso with surnames: Di Giovanni, Di Stefano, Matteo, Ferrari/Ferraro. Sounds like we may have a connection .

Hi- I know your post was written a long time ago, so hopefully you will get this! I am looking for information on my gr gr grandmother Tomasina Angiolillo or our family also spelled in D'Angiolillo from Mirabello Sannitico. She was born around 1863. She was married to Gianni Simiele. Her daughter, Maria Giavanna, was my gr grandmother and she was born in 1883. She also had a daughter named Filomena and an "adopted" son Benne who is believed to be Gianni's illegitimate son. Just wondering if you had ever come across Tomasina's name in your research! Thanks!
