I am looking for information on Christopher C Young and Mary A Arnett. The oldest info that I have for them is the Darke County Ohio 1860 census and even then they are listed only as CC and MA Young. Around 1863 they moved to Whitley County, Indiana where Christopher died in 1867. I am guessing they were married around 1851 perhaps in Preble County. I have no leads for any family or siblings on Christopher. Possible parents for Mary are John Sr. & Sarah Young (from the 1950 census Ohio, Monroe Twp). Christophers & Mary's children were Arnzi?, Emanuel, Harvey, Amanda, Sarah & Susannah. Susannah was my GG Grandmother, she married George (Deafy) Maggart in 1881.

Since Mary A Arnett Young was found to be in Darke County Ohio for both 1850 and 1860 I would be inclined to think the marriage took place in this county.

The following Christopher Young is the closest match to your Christopher C Young assuming he was counted in the 1850 record. What is odd about this find is that there are two Arnett families living on either side of him. Christopher also owned his land in Darke county in 1860. Perhaps there is a record of the purchase and sale of this property on file which would give you a clue of his arrival in Darke county. The 1860 census shows only your Christopher and two other Young's with first initial C who were about the same age and the other two were not in Miami County in 1860.

There are 94 Young's indexed in Miami county in 1850 of which 8 are in Union including Christopher, Mary and Joseph. Perhaps they died and he then married Mary Arnett within the year.

Miami County joins Darke County to the east and Darke County is bordered by Indiana on the west. Union township in the southwestern portion of the county bording Darke County.

Darke County has a good genealogical website on USGENWEB

Anyway, worth checking into. Good Luck!

Hi Shelly,
I now know they were married 2 Aug 1848, and NOT in Montgomery, Preble, or Darke Counties. I have therefore narrowed it down to Miami County where they were living in Union Twp. in 1850, and am currently searching their marriage records. I have also found the marriage record of Christopher's father Philip Young to Elizabeth Royer in 1812 in Montgomery County. Keep digging! The Young motto is "Press Through."

Hello! My name is Karen Cheadle! I'm interested in what information you have on Philip and Elizabeth Royer Young. They had a daugther named Sarah circa 1820 and she married Wiley North on 26 May 1842. They lived in Darke Co. and are buried there. But I can't seem to find Sarah's parents. If you have any info that could help me, it would be appreciated. I have more info on Wiley & Sarah. Thanks a bundle! Contact me at

Have you found any information on Elizabeth ROYER and Philip YOUNG? Philip's line is mentioned in a Darke County, Ohio biography linked off my web page below, but I am trying to figure out Elizabeth ROYER's parents whose information in the biography conflicts with my information. See my web site:
The biography also says Sarah's brothers Christian and Joseph married Mary Arnott.

It is interesting to see your Christopher moved to Whitley County, Indiana which is where my mother is from. I assume that is him with wife Mary Ann remarried to P. McMahon at Round Lake Cemetery where half the burials are related to my Brethren families who help start the Blue River Brethren church in the 1850's. My ZUMBRUN family siblings married into ARNETT's from Darke County, Ohio, some stayed some moved to Whitley County. I made another comment on a later posting to yours concerning Elizabeth ROYER and Philip YOUNG the parents of Christopher linked to my web page: which links to your Philip YOUNG family history details in the 1900 Darke County Biography. A couple of ROYER's are buried in Round Lake Cemtery with my Maria ROYER ZEIGLER's families.

Hello Stan, I have not as yet done any research on Elizabeth Royer, other than locating the reference you noted in Royers in America and another note I found in a Mendenhall chronicle, both indicating her marriage to Philip. I have located their marriage record in Montgomery Co, OH in 1812. I am well aware of Calvin M. Young's biography which has guided most of my research thus far, and I've found it to be very accurate but for a few discrepancies I've found so far re: his grandparents and earlier. I live in Whitley Co. nearby to the Round Lake cemetery where Christopher and Mary Ann are buried. Also, buried there is Mary Ann's father, Henry Arnett. Calvin was the eldest son of Christopher's twin brother, Daniel K. Young. Both brothers families moved to Whitley Co. in 1863 from Darke Co. Ohio, but Daniel returned his family to Ohio in the Spring of 1870 after Christopher death in 1867. Calvin became a well-known and recognized authority on early anthropology and archaeology in the old Northwest Territory. He was a member of the Ohio Archaeology Society and authored a book on the Miami Indian Chief Little Turtle and his adopted son, William Wells. Elizabeth Royer died about 1845 was supposedly buried at Arlington cemetery, Montgomery Co, although I've been unable to locate the grave. Philip later moved to Fulton Co, IN to live with his son, Philip, who married Martha Mow and his eldest daughter, Susannah, who married John Sherrow and later William Peck; He died in Fulton Co in 1866 and was supposedly buried in Reichert cemetery (on the banks of the Tippecanoe). This cemetery has been heavily vandalized over the years and I've been unable to locate a stone for him, but Susannah and John are both buried there. The Joseph you mention who married Mary Arnett was the youngest brother of Christopher and Daniel. I've not been able to locate any info on him over the years, although an Arnett researcher I know seems to think both Marys were closely related, perhaps even sisters. My research is not very organized, but I will share anything I can; You can contact me using my direct email address. Michael Young

According to information that was given to me by the late Charles Rockwood, Christopher C. Young married Mary Ann Arnett 3 Aug. 1848 in Miami Co., Oh. Their children included: Joseph A. (1849-1932), Amsigh Biddell 1851-1933), Emanuel (abt 1853-bef oct 1915), Harvey Johnson (1855-1915), Amanda Fiana (1859-1920 to 1930), Sarah Ann (1861-1919) and Susanna (abt 1863-Dec 1916).

Mary Ann Arnett was said to be the daughter of Henry & Mary Bowser Arnett and the granddaughter of Bartholomew Arnett (the Hessian soldier who emigrated to the New World) and his wife, Catherine.

I am descended from Bartholomew & Catherine ? Arnett's son, David Arnett.

Would you be interested in exchanging information on our common ARNETT family?
