Looking for Smyths from Ireland, ca 1800+ to Nova Scotia. Peter Smyth b. abt 1800, was possibly the son of a miller, but not sure if his father was in Ireland or NS. He became famous in Pt. Hood, Cape Breton Island. Would love to connect him back to parents and siblings.

You seem to be looking for my gggrandfather. I have just started to investigate my ancestry and I am able to go back as far as Peter Smyth. He immigrated to NS in 1817, 1st wife Mary O'Grady, of Canso, have no info on her as yet. Then, married Ellen Keating, of Guysborough. My Mother has the family bible which was given to her ggrandfather Raymond by his Mother (Ellen). The bible does not mention Peter Smyth's parents or siblings. It is my understanding that he immigrated to NS alone. I will be interested in whether or not you have any other info. I will be back in NS in September 2004, and will be doing more research there. I also have a friend here in Austin, TX who has an Aunt in Navan, where Peter is reportedly from, who is willing to look into birth records and possibly find his out about his parents and siblings if any. Are you a relative on Ellen's side?
