I am searching for my great great grandfather, Alex Bridges. He was married to a Rebecca Cantrell, I think. He was born around 1828 and died around 1911. I know that he was arrested for being in the KKK in or around 1871. But that is about all that I know. He had the following children. M. L. who married a Julie Price, Nancy who married a Richard Cobb, Julie who married a Tobe Cole , Susan who married a John Hammett, Mary who married a Theo Bright, Billy who married a Martha Price, and he had two other daughters who married Jeff and Elish Scruggs. Can anyone tell me anything about him. I can not find him. I know that he is buried at Cherokee Creek church cemetery.

I have a relative who's father was a Bridges from this area.
Her brother's name was J.B. Bridges, but I need to find out the fathers name again. Her mother was Mattie Bridges I believe.

Limestone Springs is near Gaffney, SC in what is now Cherokee County - Cherokee County was formed from several counties in 1897 - thus not shown in the 1880 census. The earliest villages in Cherokee County
before 1750 were the Cherokee Nation and the Catawba Indian Nation - Cherokee's ceded some land in 1721.
The whole area around Gaffney was part of the Revolutionary War - Cowpens, Kings Mountain, Spartanburg, etc.
Originally all this part was called Berkeley County in 1767.

You may find ancestors in Berkeley County, Spartanburg County, Cherokee County, or nearby counties as the new ones were formed and the old names stayed but boundaries changed. Limestone Springs is in the southern half of present day Gaffney, South Carolina.
