I know this post is really old now and may not be relevant anymore but I do have some info. that I just came across. James H. was the son of Caroline Hayden b. 9/23/1811 in Vernon River, PEI died 4/16/1889 in Charlottetown, PEI. She married John Fletcher, som of William Fletcher and Jane Lane. William was born about 1813 in Orwell Mills, PEI and died 5/31/1851 in same town.

A census from 1881 has Caroline living in the household of Jane E. Lawson in Charlottetown, PEI. (Interesting point to me because my great grandfather is Frank Lawson Fletcher and I'm wondering how the name ties in.)

Children of John and Caroline:

William M. Fletcher, died in SF, CA m. Joanna
James Hayden Fletcher, b.1835 d. 1910 Gresham, OR (Checking with my parents and the family bible for this info because I've also seen b. 1843 d. 1912. There may have been family over in Gresham but Grandpa Frank, J.H.'s son built a house in St. John's over between the bridge and the Univ. I thought Grandpa James had died there.)
James Edward Fletcher b. 12/14/1837
Henry Watson Fletcherb. about 1845 d. 8/1/1870
Jane Fletcher b. 1846 d. 1846
Charles Pope Fletcher b. 7/10/1850 d. 1917

Given the dates that Grandpa James fathered children, came to the states and served as lt. gov. I feel more confident with the 1835 birth but will confirm. The bible contains his marriage cert. to Lavinia (sp?) but parents are to confirm info for me.

Children: (all info to be confirmed by entries by J.H. himself and resulting family members in family bible.)

Frank Lawson Fletcher b. 3/1872 d. 1915?
John Hamilton "Ham" Fletcher b.
Morley b. 6/1874
Norton b. 2/1876

I believe there was also a son named James Pope or Alexander Pope that died within monthes of his birth.

Near as a friend and I could figure is that they must have immigrated about 1884 because a record was found of Uncle Ham getting his citizenship in 1885. Grandpa James served as Lt. Gov. (according to Wikipedia) 1889-1891 or according to a Brown Co. listing which refers to him as Hon. James H. Fletcher and in a pioneer listing 1887-1889.

I have little to no info. on his wife other than that she was Canadian born as well. Hopefully the bible info can help shed some light on where to look for more info.

We may be distant cousins. James Hayden Fletcher had a brother John J Fletcher. Both married in PEI and moved with their families to Fort Pierre, SD in 1883. Later, James moved to Oregon. John J stayed in Fort Pierre.

James Hayden Fletcher is my Great, Great Grandfather. I’m still trying to figure this all out but saw your post on here from 2011?
Anyway, I’m out here in SOCAL and if we are related somehow...we’ll, I’m saying hello.
