If you can help I would really appreciate it, I am stuck. The farthest back I can get it George A. Stearns, who enlisted in the Civil War at Keene, NH, listed birthplace as Gardner, Mass. Gardner, MA tells me the only birth in his time frame was male, Stearns to James C. Stearnes, 3/2/1846-no mother listed. I believe Geo A's son was George M. Stearns who ended up in the Grand Traverse County area of Michigan and married Hulda(h) Millard in 1888. Thanks again. Sheila Rustin

Can you please look in your database to find Eliza Catherine Stearns who married Robert Edward Campbell. I think she had a brother named Samuel A. (could be Abraham) Stearns, he served in the civil was from Co. G, of the 82nd Ohio Infantry. I have a picture of his tombstone with the shield on it. He is buried in Peru, KS. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Angie

Eliza Stearns

That is all for now. I have traced your George
A. Stearns back to Isaac Stearns who came to
America in 1630 on board the ship the Arrabella.
As part of the Winthrop Fleet of 1630. Theyt
stopped first at Salem but didnt like it so
they left with 7 other families and started
a new community that today is Watertown Mass.

All this information is available in a book
Isaac Stearns and his Descendents by Avis
Van Wagenen. It is available from Higginson
book in Salem Mass for about $65.00. If you
want more information please give me your
email and I can download the information from
my computer.

It is always nice to meet a new cousin even if
if it a 9th cousin. Im guessing that we are
about 9th cousins.

Paul, thank you so very much for the info on my line of the Stearns'. However, I can clear up a little bit - George Mason Stearns m. Hulda(h) Milliard, not Willard, and they also had a son, my grandfather, Orlin George Stearns. I did not know about a daughter. He was born in 1898, not sure where but I have always assumed it was Traverse City. He ended up in Detroit and died in 1943. Hulda's parents were Jay B. Millard and Hulda Freeland. Hulda Millard Stearns died in 1905 of TB and Orlin was then raised by an aunt Hattie Millard. I don't know why his father wasn't involved. I would love any other info you have, my email is Thanks again. Orlin died before I was born and was a drunk on skid row. My grandmother was in the process of divorcing him when he froze to death in the streets of Detroit so I never spoke to him as I was born in 1951. He was also an extremely abusive man so my father never talked much about him.

hi again

I just remembered my father used to have the sword and a bible that was issued to George A. Stearns when he enlisted in the Civil War and he had written his name and where he was at the time. I still have the bible, but my cousin has the sword. Anyway, I wrote the Cheshire County Historical Society to trace him and they told me that George A. Stearns was a private in Co. M., 1st Regt. N.H. Volunteer Heavy Artillery and married Jennie Ford (not Jane) on July 20, 1865. The minister who married them was the Rev. John A. Hamilton. That was the last mention of them in Keene NH.
