Ignatz Wolf (my great-grandfather) b. 10 Aug 1864 came from the southwestern part of Bohemia on April 9, 1891 with Maria Friedberger to Oshkosh, Wisconsin,USA. She and her family were from a small village called Gansauerhaid which was near Oldermaldau, Mehrgarten and Winterberg (Vimperk). They were married in Oshkosh in May of 1891. He had two sisters Berta and Pauline who also came to Oshkosh. His obituary (d. 9 Jun 1920) stated that he had three sisters residing in Germany'. His father's name was Martin Wolf and his mother's name was Pauline nee Steckbauer (or Stoegbauer?). I am assuming that he was from a nearby village, but need to know his place of birth. By family tradition, one of his parents had died and the other had remarried - again I assume that the above names are his biological parents' names, and not a step-parent. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have just read your message about Wolf etc... from Mehrgarten. I have Stefan and Mathias Wolf from Mehrgarten in my ancestry, but sadly no Ignatz or Martin.
Also, I have Pauline Stegbauer (born 1870) who married Johann Saiko from Seehaid and they emigrated to MN in or about 1888.
Any help? I am happy to share info. Let me know,

Hi Maresli,
Since I posted that message, a relative that lives in German and visits Bohemia twice a year or so, went to the Trebon Archives with a Czech friend. Armed with information as to the birthplace of Ignatz Wolf that I found on a birth certificate of one of his son's born in Oshkosh, WI, they were able to trace the family back the early 1800's.

Ignatz Wolf b. 1864 (my ggrandfather) was the son of Martin Wolf (farmer in Mehregarten Nr 3) and Paulina Stogbauer (two dots over the o)daughter of Ignatz Stogbauer (farmer in Schwarzhaid Nr.2) and Mariana (born Jungwirth in Schindlau).

Martin Wolf b. 1825 was the son of Ignacz Wolf (small farmer in Mehregarten) and Anna Maria (daughter of Anton Zach (small farmer in Kubohutten Nr. 4) and Marie (born Kurz in Kubohutten Nr. 1.) Witness Josef Stegbauer (small farmer in Neugabau Nr. 7.) (Zach's married into the Friedberger family also - so I would be related to them through both lines)

Paulina Stegbauer Wolf b 1832 was the daughter of Ignatz Stegbauer (small farmer in Schwarzhaid Nr. 2 * ) and Maria Anna (born Jungwirth ** )

* [Ignatz was the son of Mathias Stegbauer (auszugler in Schwarzhaid Nr. 2.) and Theresia (born Kuplent of Kaltenbach)]

** [Maria Anna was the daughter of Andreas Jungwirth (small farmer in Schindlau Nr. 6) and Barbora (born Paulik in Mittenberg Nr. 5.)]

I have a family history from the Friedberger family (Maria married my ggrandfather Ignatz Wolf) nad it has excerpts from other books. It lists Gansauerhaid (wher Maria was born) with 6 houses and 37 residents. Mehregarten with 18 houses and 126 residents and Seehaid with 20 houses and 164 residents in 1910.

There is also a map that seems to be from about the time period - listing 19 houses in Mehregarten - resident in House #14 is listed as Karl Wolf and the resident in 18 is listed as Alois Wolf. Sadly there is no map for Seehaid. But in Gansauerhaid had ran right up to Mehrgarten has a Alexander Saiko as resident of Nr. 8. From what I can read of it (it is in German and I only 'hunt and peck' German) the children from Gansauerhaid, Mehregarten, Ferchenhaid, Seehaid nad Schwarzhaid attended a school located between mehregarten and Ferchenhaid. I believe I have a recent photograph of the school.

See if you find a match in any of this.

I'm looking for my ancestors history. My grandpa was Gottfried Friedberger, born in Oct., 15th, 1860. He was son of Martin Friedberger and Thereza Keller Friedberger. He was married with Charlotte Birnbaun Friedberger and they had a son: Antonio Friedberger, who was born in Brazil in 1908. If any of these names are familiar to you, please, e-mail me. Thanks.

Hi Gloria,
The generation that would have possibly had children during that time period does not show any of thse names. I know that their were other Friedbergers' in the area of Vimperk as there are unrelated men listed on their war memorial there.

Sorry and good luck
