I am looking for information about my 7th greatgrandparents: John AWBREY and Jane JOHNSTONE. They were the parents of Francis AWBREY b. ca. 1690, Westmoreland Co., VA. Francis AWBREY married Frances TANNER, whose parents were (I think) Thomas TANNER and Mary ATWELL. I would also like to identify the parents of Mary ATWELL...possibly Thomas ATWELL and Ann LEE? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I will be glad to share what I have.

I am looking for the ancestors of Letitia (Laetitia) Atwell born 1743 in Culpeper VA. She married Major John Lee in 1770 and had Willis Atwell Lee in 1772. She died March 29, 1775 in childbirth in Culpeper. Major John Lee was a Revolutionary War solidier. He remarried Elizabeth Bell and they had many children. They moved from Orange County Va to Woodford county Kentucky. Willis Atwell Lee built "Glen Willis" north of Frankfort Ky, where my second great grandmother Catherine Rennick married Rev. John Mongomery. The Lee book does not list Willis Atwell Lee. Ring a bell?

Have been searching for information about my GGGgrandfather, William Lee. He was the son of a Willis Lee(1737-1776)and Hannah Ludwell (Lee). This Willis was the son of Captain Hancock Lee (1709-1789) and Mary Willis. Willis was killed by Indians at the Falls of The Ohio (Louisville, Ky.) on April 2, 1776, and his wife supposedly remarried to Gawin Corbin II. Is there any connection?

My records show a William Lee born in 1739 Westmoreland County. But, I have him as the son of Thomas Lee (1690-1750) and Hannah Harrison Ludwell. The Willis Lee (1734) who was killed by Indians in 1776 was Major John Hancock Lee's brother. Their mother was Mary Willis and their father Hancock Lee (1709-1762). I have no information on Willis Lee's wife or children. You may want to check Dr. Petit's Lee website -it has a lot of links.

My ancestor, Willis Atwell Lee was the son of Major John and Letitia Atwell, who died in childbirth in 1775 in Culpeper VA. I would appreciate any help you could give me.

Thanks, Jan Howell Marx

According to John Boddie, the parents of Mary Atwell were Thomas and Honora Atwell, who sometimes used the name Collins. They were transported to the colonies about 1650 by Edward Grimes.
