Granville Goins was realy James Granville Goins. His father was Shadrack Goins from Granger Co, Tennessee. There are so many Shadracks in the Goins family that iam not sure that the Shadrack is the old Shadrack Goins ,from Patrick Co, Va. He died in Granger Co, and his will was probated in Patrick Co, Va. He was the father of 21 children, probly from more than one wife.
Granville and Mary (Polly) had around 13 children. Mahalie Jane,James L.,Rachael,Betsy Jane, Mary, William,Martha,Noah,Dotson,John,Roland,Nancy,Frances.
James L married a Melvina Goins( probly a cousin) Rachael married a Josh Jones, and Dotson married a Erelda Goins(probly another cousin) Lots of the early Goins married cousins, cause they wonted to keep the blood pure. That was their reasonning then. I have the dates of deaths of Granville and Mary Goins children. Some died in Indian Terriotry in Okahoma. You can reach me through my e-mail. I very seldum look at this forem. Good Luck . Louise Goins Dunn

I have found quite a lot of info in the two years that I started looking for my family.I found Granville in 1880 census in
James Co, Tn.Age 72.Married at that time to Louiza(age 46). Also living with him was his grandson Benjamin age 18.Benjamin was the son of his daughter, Rachel.I also found his grave at Mt Vernon Cemetary,Hamilton Co, Tn.He died June 20,1889.I thought at first, that my grandfather Charles A. was the son of James L. but he was the son of Martha, daughter of Granville, and Mary(Polly).James L. was his uncle.I have sent for his application on the Guion Miller Roll, so hopefully I will be able to find his father. The 1880 census lists Granville born in SC. and his father in Va.Thanks for your help,
Terri Goins Cline

My great grandmother was Polly Walden. She is listed as Mary Goings in the 1850 census. She married David Goings in 1849. Prior to their marriage, she had six children, one being Eliza Jane. I do not know if this is the same family. Polly's mother was Nancy/Ann Walden whose father was John Chavis Walden out of Virginia. Could this be your family?

This is my family. Granville and Mary Polly Goins had a daughter, Mahaley Jane Goins. Mahaley married Alfred Goins. They had a daughter named Mary Jane Goins, who married William Thomas Irwin. William and Mary Jane are my great grandparents. They had a daughter, Lelia Odessa Irwin, who married Dewey Roosevelt Hawkins. Those are my grandparents. They had my father and his 8 siblings.

have been looking at you query of granvill and mary polly goins. i think they are connected to by family line in kentucky. both names are in my line gowens that were known to have been in north carolina and originally from va. i also see that you have refered to the guion miller roll. i'm wondering if this is the indian connections my family has always believed we have but no one has been able to prove. the closest i've come is finding williams gowen(goins) listed in the 1790 north caroline census as "other free persons" meaning they were not listed as a slave, nor were they listed as white. william was born in hanover county, va. 1720 or 1730. i would love to see you family line and info you have to compare with mine and see if perhaps we are related.
