Our 3rd ggrandfather, Garland CALDWELL was born to George CALDWELL and Jane WINN in 1770 in the Fairfield Dist. of SC. I'm trying to connect Garland to the correct George CALDWELL. Our George was born at sea three days before his family's ship from IRELAND docked in BALTIMORE. This was sometime between 1730 and 1745. The family stayed in the Baltimore area for a time and then settled in VA. Family stories say there was a close connection with John C. Calhoun, who was of the JOSEPH CALDWELL - JANE McGHIEA line. I know there is a George in this line, but little seems to be known about him, or his brother Andrew. I've wondered if one of them might be the father of our George. Does anyone know anything about our George or Garland?? I'd be grateful for any help!

George Caldwell, son of Joseph Caldwell and Jane McGhie, was born 1690, married Jane Phillips, a sister to Margaret Phillips, and came to America, date not known. If he traveled with his wife's sister and brother-in-law then he came to America 12/10/1727 living at first in New Castle Deleware, then to Chestnut Level in Lancater Co. Pa. and by 1740 in Cub Creek, Va. I would think George was at the age to fight in the French/Indian War. Have you tried the military records?

I am trying to find more information about this George you tell about. I went to the National Archives looking for military information on George in the French/Indian war, but their records don't go back past the Revolutionary War. Where would I find records on the French/Indian War? I found a French/Indian War site on the internet, but it only listed the French soldiers. Help or advice would be appreciated.

Edith,

My name is Brenda and I am working on our Ritchie ancestry. Please bear with me because your Caldwell (see subject) comes in on the Ritchie lineage.

I have an Alexander Ritchie III who wed Mary Wilson in 1739. I have no dob or dod yet.

Next was Alexander Ritchie Jr. b. 1688 (came to Delaware 12/10/1727...Pa...Va. He married Jane Caldwell.

Then there is a Joseph Caldwell b. 1/9/1657 d. 9/3/1735, wed 5/5/1682 to Jane McGhie.

Next is John Caldwell who married Mary Holmes (of Sweetingham)--no other info. on these two yet.

From John Caldwell and Mary Holmes is William Caldwell. No info. on whether he married as yet.

The last name of (Caldwell's) is Alexander Caldwell--no other information except on the Ritchie side which follows after:

Alexander Ritchie Jr. b. 1688 (came to Delaware 12/10/1727...Pa...Va. He married Jane Caldwell. Alexander Jr. came to New Castle, Delaware on 12/10/1727 from Antvim, Northern Ireland.

The last two names of Ritchie's I have is an Alexander Ritchie Sr., b. 1650 and a James Ritchie (of Glasgow, Scotland).

There was a Alexander Ritchie Jr. who came to New Castle, Delaware on 12/10/1727 from Antivim, Northern Ireland. Alexander Jr. was the grandson of James Ritchie of Scotland).
per a note attached to the Ritchie informtion.

It is 4:45 a.m. and my eyes are tired. I hope I got all this correct.

Let me know if you need any Ritchie information and whether you have any information on the above mentioned Caldwell's.

I am just starting to learn all this and am still a bit confused. Sorry, if I confused you!

thanks

I still have some missing info. on the Ritchie's

Oh boy, have you ever gotten on a roller coaster ride with this message! You will probably get tons of replies as there are Caldwell researchers all over the map and they indeed mix in with Ritchie/Richey.

I have some limited information I can send you ...but I was just on my way out the door to do errands. I will contact you one day next week and send you what I have. You may have already gotten replies which are more advanced than mine...but we sister genealogists like to help each other out!

I will contact you next week.

Hi, L Caldwell, There is another cuzin I'm in touch with who is also searching a Graland....Wesley Garland Caldwell m. Mariah Louise Roberts 12/11/1873 in Clay County, AL. If this is a possible link to your Garland, I will share your e-mail address with them. Maybe it can prove beneficial to both! I have where the two above are buried with inscriptions. Happy to share! Hi LaVonta, Sorry I'm so slow replying. I haven't looked at the message board for some time. I don't think the Garland Caldwell you refer to could be the same as mine. My Garland was born much earlier, and married a Elizabeth Matthews in SC. Our Caldwell line did have some ties into AL however. I know one of Garland's sons did travel to AL, and MS for a time, and several of this son's children were born in those two states. Perhaps some of the family moved to AL later on. I don't know. Most of them are in GA that I have found.

Thanks for replying,
L Caldwell
