Thanks for the help on John Clarke.I have been in contact with the resources you mention.I also recently went to Windsor and their historical society and got a little more.My two problems are:documentation of the marriage of Jane Clarke to John Neily( no church or town records seem to exist) and any documentation-other than land grant-on the first John(Jane's father).Since no one else seems to have found anything,I've pretty much concluded they don't exist. If you have anything to the contrary I'd really appreciate hearing from you.Again thanks for the response. John Clarke, born c. 1742 in Ireland, died 1825 in Windsor, N.S. is one of my progenitors in North America through
Mary Jane Curry, daughter of Martha Hamilton Mixner and Constant Curry. Mary Jane married Andrew Peter Shand and they had a son Frederick Andrew Shand who was my grandfather. All lived in Windsor, N.S. Martha H. Mixner/maxner was the daughter of John Mixner/maxner and Mary Ann Browne. John was the son of Jane Clarke, (daughter of John born c. 1742 )who married a Lenoard Mixner/maxner. My Shand progenitor was Patrick who
reportedly was born in Huntly, Scotland in 1745, came to Windsor, N.S. c. 1788, married Olive Davison c 1792-94. Strangely enough, Patrick Shand lived on a farm rented from John Clarke, situated at the gates to King's College in Windsor and this house is still there today. According to the Shand family history, Patrick and Olive lived in John Clarke's rented house until about 1824 when he moved into the home of their son Peter Shand on King Street in Windsor. Patrick died in September, 1825. His life parallels John Clarke's life as far as birth and death dates are concerned..

Which Jane are you seeking? John's sister Jane who married a Neily or John's daughter? I am a little bit confused. Have you tried all Annapolis County Records? There is a man in my area who is a relative. I will try to contact him to see if he can give me some information. At the moment I cannot recall his name but I did send him a copy of John Clarke's Will.

Further to my earlier response today, I have now looked up my contact re Jane Clarke-Joseph Neily. My contact was made in May 2000 so E-Mail address, snail mail and telephone number may all be outdated but I will pass them on.
My information was provided by Keith Lightizer, Box 31, Pontypool, Ontario, L0A 1K0, Telephone Number 905-277-2740.

I will quote a portion of Keith's response to my enquiry:

"My info on the marriage of Jane Clarke to Joseph Neily comes from the History of the County of Annapolis by Calnek/Savary. You will find the Supplement to the book in the Oshawa (Ontario) Library. I don't know if there is any other information in it but, it is worth a look. In the Neily genealogy on Page 556 it states that Joseph spent three years in Windsor; from his arrival in 1765 to 1768 when he removed to Wilmot. While in Windsor, he married Jane, the daughter of John Clarke, a leading farmer in the area. Sorry, that is my only source. I looked in the History of Kings County by Eaton also but I found no reference to Mixner or McHeffey and all the Clarkes seem to be of the Asa Clarke Family"

Does this help you?

I appreciate your followup.Calnek-Savery has been my primary source,What I'm looking for is actual documentation and that's what nobody has found including the local researchers. The records for that early settlement period where not good and I'm reluctantly conceeding I won't find any more. Thanks again for your interest.

Sorry ,I should have read your responses in the right order. This is to your listing of your genealogical line to John Clarke.I am interested in Jane ,the sister of John and John's father-also John.John,Sr. and his family came over as part of the McNutt group in the early 1760s.There is good documentation of John,Jr.who was very successful but nothing on John,Sr. other than his land grant and nothing on Jane. She was presumably born in Ulster and married John Neily sometime around 1765.But I've found nothing. They moved to Annapolis Co.and I've got them documented from that point on,But nothing in Windsor and as I said in my first reply, nobody else has found anything.
