My ancestor's family name was alternately spelled McDaniel or McDanel depending on the generation and the document involved. Gregg McDaniel(McDanel) moved to Illinois in the 1820's and settled in Ottercreek, Jersey Co, Il. One of his sons was named Springer McDaniel(McDanel). Since this was an unusual name I thought it might be a family name. I found a Springer McDaniel in New Castle Delaware on the 1850 census. His birth date would be abt 1798. Does anyone have any information relating these two? Specifically I am looking for the parents of Gregg McDaniel or any information that might lead to his ancestry.

Gregg McDanel was my great-great grandfather. I live just a few miles from the cemetery where Gregg, his wife Rachel(Lockeby) and sons Springer and Charles are all buried. I Believe Gregg's Parents were Thomas McDaniel Sr.and Rachel(Springer). Thomas was born in New Castle County, Delaware about 1751. Hope this helps.

Thank you for this information. As it happens my sister and I were in Otterville this past spring and visited the cemetery where they were all buried. We are descended from Sarah McDaniel Rogers, sister to Charles and Springer, through her daughter Adah Rachel Rogers Johnson. Gregg McDanel was my gr-gr-great grandfather. Would you happen to know where Sarah McDaniel Rogers or her husband, Noah T. Rogers, are buried?

I'll check with my mom, she knows a lot more about this than I do. She actually told me that Springer was Gregg's nephew, not a son.

Gregg, I too am related to 4 great grandfather Gregg. I have been working on his side of the family for quite a while and need help. Do you have any clues that aren't on the net? Does anyone in the family have pictures that could be copied. I have pictures of Sarah Lenora McDanel Ward.
Would love to see the old homestead this summer.

Hello. Have any male McDanel/McDaniels from this line done any yDNA testing? It appears this line may be related to the Bryan MacDonnell who settled in Mill Creek Hundred; but I don't think that is proven. There is a group of about a dozen men from various sons of Bryan MacDonnel who have tested and we are trying to put all the family back together.
