Donna, it's surprising how many Dillard BROWNs come up in the various online indexes. I found one Dillard Brown born about 1906 in NC, another born about 1908 in Missouri. There also were Dillard BROWNs in Marion, Linn County, IA, but they were born in 1887 and 1923; checking the older one in the 1920, there was no son named Dillard in his household.

The surest way to get the facts is to get a copy of Dillard's death certificate from the county where he died, or to send for his SS5 (Application for Social Security Number), which will include both parents’ full names (including mother's maiden name), as well as Dillard’s birth date, birth place, place of employment and home address at the time he applied for his SSN.

Good luck.
Mary

I am hoping someone can help me here...

I have been doing research on my wife's family that has an interesting story. Problem is I still can't find her mother. The story of my wife's grandparents is well documented but there is only one possible reference to her mother. I am hoping someone can help. The story of my wife's grandparents is her grandfather, Dillard Brown, killing his ex-wife (Iva Osborne Brown) and her new husband Clifford Anderson in 1955 in Webster County. Most of the stories I have found mention 5 kids, non are my mother-in-law. There is a mention on Findagrave of what might be my mother-in-law as Mrs. Russell West. My mother-in-law's name was Gussie Irene Brown. Any thoughts out there that might help?

Steven, it may be helpful to know where and when your wife was born, so that we have some idea of where Gussie Irene BROWN was at a given point in time. Was Gussie married at the time of your wife's birth?

What documents do you already have that establish Dillard BROWN and Iva OSBORNE as your wife's grandparents? Any of this information might be helpful in finding details about Gussie Irene BROWN."

I met Dillard Brown shortly after his release from prison and lived less that a mile from him when I was a teenager and made friends with him and his Norwegian Elkhound "Dusty" which was a great coon hunting dog, Dillard would roast a coon a couple times a month and would invite us down to his 2 room house in Deception Hollow he built himself from salvaged lumber he got from an abandoned farm house a quarter mile away. We remained friends for years until he passed.
