The Chalut name seems to under gone many different spellings. My husband has an ancester by the name of Jacques Chaillon (also spelled Chaloux). He was married to a Gabrielle Banivet. If this is the person you are looking for he came from de St. Andre de Mirebeau, diocese de Poitiers in Anjou. I would like any information that you might have on his crossing.

Message #74 to Donna Chalut (Chaloux?). thank you for the answer on the area in France where my/your husband's ancesters are from. From What I have found out, this particular Jacques Chaloux/Challion, is the father of 3 little boys whom he put on a ship and sent to Canada in 1720 to escape some sort of civil unrest. He (the parents) a year later died and the 3 boys remained in Canada. the 2 younger ones died and the older Jacues II died at age 50. He also married a Marie Felicite Bertaume. Well looks like your husband and I are related somewhere way back..If you want to send me more info please do as I am passing on what I know to my own brother and sister who are real interested in their heritage...Thanks Donna...Sincerely Yvette O'Connor PS. Are you in the US?

Jacques' parents were from Poitiers France and the info passed down to me was that they died on the ship coming over. The father was Jacques also and the mother was Gabrielle Banivet. His wife was Felicite Berthiaume. The Chaloux in Barre descend from Alexandre and Lea Thibault of Paquetteville,QC

I am researching the lineage of the Wolfe surname. My great-grandmother was Carrie Wolfe. Carrie's parents were Thomas (Velus) Wolfe (1859-1945) and Leonora/Lenora Ploof (1863-1892). I'd like to find out if Thomas's wife was part American Indian, of the Ahkwesasne Indian Reservation in northern upstate New York. Many of Thomas ancestors were from Quebec, and France prior, and their surname used to be spelled Chaloux or Chaloup.
Francis Chaloup/Wolfe and Aurela Benware/Benvare were Thomas' parents. Thomas' grandparents were Francois Chaloup and Madeline Fortier, according to my father's geneology chart. However, it does not show any children married to a Eudora.
Are you from New York state? - Judy

Based on the information in your posting, I believe I can connect you back into the Chaloux lines. In brief, here is how I have you connected (by the way, my wife and I have been voracious in our research lately, and in the last few months have put together a massive amount of the Chaloux lineage).

Anyway, here is how I have your Thomas Velus/Chaloux/Chaloup/Wolfe connecting back..
His parents were Francois Chaloux/Chaloup/Wolfe and Aurela Benware/Benvare (I wonder if that may a derivative of Benoit).

Francois's parents were (another) Francois Chaloux (b:1792) married to Madeleine Fortier. They were married 01 Sept 1817 in St. Benoit Qc.

His parents were Jacques Chaloux (06Jan1762-1835) married to Marie-Anne Fauteux, married 13 Jan 1784 in St-Eustache Qc.

His parents were Jacques Chaloux (20Feb1736/7 - 1800) married to Marie-Margaret Larue-Desplaines(b: 17Jan1742/3). They were married 31Mar1761 in St. Ours Richelieu, Qc.

His parents were Jacques ChHaillon/Chalou/Chalion/Chateau/etc. (02Jun1695-10Dec1746; B in Diocese Mirebeau, Fr., D in St-Augustin-De-Desmaures, Qc). He was married to Felicite Berthiaume (05Jun1712-????). They were married 12Nov1736 in St-Anne-De-Laperade, Qc.

His parents were Jacques Chalou/etc. married to Gabrielle Bonnivet/Bonnivet/Banivet/etc. Little else is known about them.

It has long been believed that the original immigrant for most Chaloux's in Canada and USA came through Jacques Chaloux and wife Felicite Berthiaume; with this Jacques being the son of Jacques Chaloux and Gabrielle Banivet. There are numerous variants associated with the (Chalion, Chateau, Chaillon, etc for Jacque, and Bonnivet, Basinet, Bazinet, etc. for Gabrielle).

Last weekend I came upon an official website in France with photocopies of original parish records for Vienne region in France. Included in this huge data set were photostatic copies of those original records for Saint Andre de Mirebeau in Poitou, France (the believed birthplace of Jacques Chaloux (the one married to Felicite Berthiaume).

I located and copied his baptismal record and that of his two sisters (Andree and Gabrielle), which I am including in the little book I am working on of my wife's Chaloux ancestry.

So I wish to shatter the myths and state conclusively that the parents were named JACQUES CHALLEAU and GABRIELLE BOUTIN. This was clearly and consistently so in all three original baptismal records (Jacques and his two previously unknown sisters).

I intend to continue digging through this information to try and prove one way or another whether the parents came to Canada or died in France.

A further POSSIBLE detail is a father for Jacques (husband of Gabrielle Boutin). There is a Renee Challeau who seems to fit as possibly being the father. This is not yet fact, but I'm putting it out so you other researchers may be able to find something.

A final POSSIBLE detail is some family members for Gabrielle Boutin. There is a Marie Boutin listed in some of the baptismal records corresponding to where she MAY be a sister. There is a Jean Boutin corresponding as a possible father. These were all located in Saint Andre de Mirebeau.

We are very excited about this new breakthrough, and hope this will be of help to the rest of you fellow researchers.
