Albert Richardson’s service record (12 pages including some correspondence about his medal) and the Medal Register with his name, can be found and downloaded online (free) at The Library & Archives of Canada see > Military & Peacekeeping > (scroll down to) Soldiers of the South African War (1899-1902) > Search > enter surname (returns 47 hits) - or add his number 132), his records only have his initials.

Note: some records like the land application cannot be viewed online and you will have to obtain copies from the archive. In the 47 hits for the surname, you will find some for SAC, but these aren’t available online.

If he did serve in the South African Constabulary in SA, I’m sure you’ll find Baden-Powell’s Proclamation of interest, see

Service records of the South African Constabulary are called Records of Conduct and Service and are held at the National Archives of South Africa in Pretoria and Bloemfontein. You can use the NAAIRS system of the SA National Archives and Records Service at to search for records, from the home page LH side menu 5th item down “search etc” then select either a repository code or RSA if you don’t know the repository. Enter line 1 surname, line 2 record of conduct; dates 1900-1910.

I’ve already done a quick search for RSA and although there are several records for surname Richardson, none fitted his given names; you could try other repository codes. When you’ve done a search and change or add to the criteria, the change will only apply to records returned in the previous search, so unless the change is to reduce the number of records, always start a new search.

If you find something you want, you’ll have to contact the SA National Archives to find out how to order a copy [copy and paste the details of the record into your email], link on home page.
Didn’t check Canadian or SA Archives for Bottomley.
