Does anyone know who were the Griders of Grider's Ranch--the location that became Roseville Calif? I am looking for full names and birth and death dates for a local history project. Thanks, wendellhuffman@hotmail.com

Hello Wendell, I don't think any of my kin settled that far north and east in CA. Most were in Porterville, Grangeville, Santa Rosa areas. Am writing to ask if you have run across any Grider's that are unconnected to your Roseville Griders that may "belong" to me. I have a file of unconnected Griders and often can pass some information along to others. Unfortunately, I don't have anything on Roseville right now but have put a note in the file - and who knows what may turn up when?? Best wishes, Shirley Grider Roberts

No, in fact, your are the first response to my Grider question and I have not run across any others of the name. Sorry, Wendell.

Tobias S. Grider later removed to Monrovia & Downey, CA, while his dau., Mary Elizabeth, c1837-c1873, who was marr. to my gt.grandfather, Allen Jackson Tackitt, 1826-1895, settled in Placer and then Nevada Co., CA.

I am very interested in this gentleman. I believe he is related to a lady that I am researching by the name of Sarah M. Grider. There is a Tobias Grider listed in the same household with her in Warren Co., KY in the 1850 census with a Sally Grider (b. about 1805) that appears to be their mother. Also listed in the household is Mary Grider and John Grider.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
