its confusing-were they of England or France, in England fleeing france to Holland?
trying to sort it out & find their lines to make th connection to my latr (ca 1800s) TN Rushing lines.

Sheri: You must be referring to, "Early Eighteenth Century Palatine Emigration," by Knittle (on page 252) which states that on the 2nd sailing from Holland to England, then to Virginia, there was listed on 23 May 1709 Mathys Riesin (German for Rushing) and Vrow (wife) and three children. I have never found any mention of these people.
I have chosen to establish my family line with William Rushin, Sr., born about 1570 in England. His children and grandchildren were all born in Clare, Suffolk County, England. Senior was followed by Junior, born on 15 Jul 1597. Next came Mathew Rushen, Sr, born 2 Jun 1633 and died in 1667 in Charles City County, Virginia. Son Mathew Junior, born about 1665 in C.C.C, Va, lived in Isle of Wight, Virginia and died about 1730 in Northampton Co., North Carolina. Then, William, William and my Abraham. His brothers Richard (1749-1841) and Phillip (1745-after 1834), while living in Anson County, N.C. became Revolutionary War soldiers. Both later moved to
Perry County, Tennessee. I hope thils is helpful. John

John, In your reply to Sheri, you mentioned Mathew Rushing, Sr. and Jr., in N.C.

I am descended from Mathew Malachi Rushing b. c. 1750 in South Carolina. He married Elizabeth Thornhill b. c. 1760. They lived in Beaufort District, S.C., until Mathew died. After his death, Elizabeth and children moved to Alabama. Known children were Mathew, Malachi, Arthur, Temperance, and William Cain.

Do you know if this Mathew has any connection to the ones you referred to? Any information will be appreciated

Emmett

Emmett_____ to my knowledge, the Rushings clustered near each other, from about 1750, in Anson County, North Carolina, Chesterfield and Cheraw Counties, South Carolina. Beaufort District is a puzzlement. I know Rushings are reported to have been there, but how and why I do not know. As you know, Beaufort is in the southeast corner of South Carolina, on the coast and just north of Savannah, Georgia. Sorry that I am of no help. John

Obviously this posting is much later than most others., I thought I would put in my two cents worth. I live in the Charlotte, N.C. area and am a descendant of Eliza Rushin (1653-1715) of Clare, Suffolk. She married Edward Goodson (1642-1722) of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Eliza was the daughter of Matthew Rushin (1633-1678) of Clare. She was the granddaughter o William Rushin (1593-1663) of Clare. William was a barber in the town at a shop owned by William Barron in or by the "Angel Inn."

I visited Clare last June but the historical society building (next to the cathedral) was closed on that particular day. It is an ancient church and the historical society is in an ancient house from 1470s. The place is also close to the wonderful town of Lavenham which has always been one of my favorites. Good luck everyone.

Hi my ancestor is the same as the one you are speaking of. The Rushing families of Matthew made their way down to Pike County/Walthall County in Mississippi. I followed our histories backward from Matthew and found we were in Suffolk England and the Ilse of Wight. From there some of the Rushing families went to Ireland .because the King of England wanted to Protestantize Ireland. Some landed up in Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland in County Cork and County Clare where my GGG grandfather James Daniel Obrien came from. They ended up in the same county and married into the Rushing family here in America. It was unclear if they had formerly met in Ireland. I have a lot of paperwork around the apartment but it's hard to get it all together. However, there is a lady in Pike County that has the whole histories of the Rushing family. As far as I know she still lives. I know very few people now that have the information. I have some but I'm sure it's not totally complete.
