Hi,

I am able to link up to the family tree listed below:

http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=rrrose...

Lewis Edward Melius would have been my great Grandfather. His son George was my grandfather. Lewis Edward's wife was Sara who I believe came from England.

Below is a picture from myspace of Edward and Sara Melius:

It looks like whomever worked out the family tree takes me all the way back to Johann Jacob Melius who was born in 1741.

Below is a photo of my Grand father George and Grand Mother at a Wright family picnic. George and his brother Slim were married to two wright sisters my grandmother and my great Aunt Mary. My grandfather is in the back row last on left and my great uncle Slim is the third from the left. The photo looks like it was taken in the mid 20's.

George Clinton Melius is my Great Great Grand Father. Lewis Edward Melius his son was my Great Grand Father. His Son George Melius was my Grandfather and his son Daniel R. Melius was my father.

With that stated I found some very interesting stuff on here that nobody else has posted. For instance George Clinton Melius was a 2 year Civil War vet that would have seen heavy action in the regiment he was in. Extensive documentation on here to prove it beyond any shadow of a doubt. This same documentation gives an exact date of his death 6-2-1911 and shows that his wife mary was still alive on 6-151911. So they both made it out of the decade that everyone thinks they died in. Also on the Civil War Pension file that Mary A. filed this was her second claim. The first claim is shown as 1890 July something and reason given is Invalid. So this tells me that while George Clinton Melius lived to 1911 75 years old, he was an invalid for his last 21 years or from the time he was 54. Below is where I got all this info. Please look at the orginal documents as ancestry.com has him born 1776 and living to be 175 years old (typo on their part)

Here's last census they were in 1910:

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&new=1&...

Here's first proof that he was in Civil war but it gets better in further links:

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&new=1&...

Here's the Civil War Pension document that Mary A. Melius filed in both 1890 and again in Juune 15 1911.

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&new=1&...

This burial card gives his Civil war status along with where his grave is and also the exact date of his death 6-2-1911

Also, on a personal side as my father passed away on 6 January 2012 of Parkinson's disease that made him an invalid for the last couple years I can certainly empathise but can only imagine 11 years of caring for someone. Don't know what made George Clinton an invalid but might have been his Civil War service since Mary had a claim from 1890 on to the Civil War pension.

My dad use to tell me a story that I will share that was told to him. He told it to me and then could not get any confirmation from anyone on the melius side as they said no Melius on our side was ever in a the civil war. So we started to thinking he may have been in a milita that was formed when the confederates came up to gettyburgh.

However this story could very well fit into George Clinton's 2 year Civil War service or in a milita he was in at Gettysburg prior to him signing up for regular service. The story goes that a bunch of them were retreating from confederates at night. They stopped at a point thinking they were far enough ahead of them. A Melius and another told them they were not stopping and kept going. During the night the one's that stayed were all killed by the confederates and a memorial was set up for them that my dad was taken to when he was little.

The Last two I post are huge photos of George and Walter Uncle Slim Melius with their wives Lena and Mary Wright at a Wright family picnic in the 1920s. The orgininal photos were quite small but the scanned image was of super quality to give a huge photo 45 inches in width.

My grandfather George is first one in suit and tie on left back row. "uncle" Slim is shirtless man in back row middle. The middle row has Lizzy Wright and my Grandmother from left to right. Then there is a spot where Mary should have been but she must be taking the photo.
