Have found my Turner KING on the 1860 Sandy Mush, Buncombe Co, census. Also found his parents on the 1850 census for same co. I am descended from Wiley Cleveland KING, son of Turner KING. This county is my "brick wall", so if anyone has any suggestions on where I could turn next for info, pls email me. Interested in anyone with ties to this family. Wiley moved to Lamar county, TX sometime around 1870.

Hi Teresa,

I also am a decendant of The King Family in Sandy Mush Buncombe County N.C. Most of my Fathers side of the family still live in those mountains today. I remember going up to Sandy Mush from Charlotte as a little boy to the King Home Comming which takes place the first Sunday of September every year. This has been a King tradition since the early 1800's and some say even longer than that.

I do believe all of the Kings from that area are related. I've done some checking and found residents of Sandy Mush were some of the first to bear arms in the Civil War. There are some interesting sites on the history of Buncombe County that gives information on Sandy Mush.

I have a Susanna KING married to Nathan WORLEY. The lived in Worley, Madison Co., North Carolina. It was located on the Lower Pine Rd by Sandy Bottom. Susanna was 1/2 Cherokee Indian. Her mothers name was said to be Morning Dove, and her father was supposedly Rufus KING. Would you happen to have records going back to 1805? Would really appreciate any information. Thanks in advance.

I'am a descendant of Lawson King, James Lawson King, Tates, and Giles from the Sandy Mush area, my grand-father tells me stories of them and the times they lived. I cant find no information on the dates of birth or death on Lawson King. I thought maybe you might know something and maybe share it with me. Thanks.

Teresa,

Have any of your male King Descendants had DNA tests? If not, I highly recommend doing so. I too have a King brick wall, also in Buncombe county, and our descendats have matched an Arfthur King line from Va. If you take a look at the familytree dna King Project page, you can see many King lines from different areas to see who your data would be compared to.

Floyd, If you get this, I would like to discuss this family with you. I have recently discovered that our King lines are related. To my surprise, DNA from oe of your lines matches ours within 2 markers.

Which of the Sandy Mush lines are you descended from? Who was the first King in your line that you are aware of?

My mother was a King. Her brother is still alive and I would love to participate in the dna project for the King family.
We are in Texas from the Turner King line, I believe.
