I too am looking for information on the Kebschull family that came from Germany. I believe that August Kebschull married an Amelia Kohlberg and came to the US to settle in Wisconsin and then later, Michigan. The ship manifest that I found does not match the census information that I am finding.

Ther iis a book called "The History of Martin Kolberg and His Decendants 1823-2004" which was researched and put together by some of Amelia's family members. Page 124 highlights Amelia and August. I have a copy of the book if you'd like me to reference any additional info for you.

It is reported that August Kebschull was actually French, but adopted by a German family. Others report that he came from Canada.

The 1895 Wisconsin Census, Town of Underhill, Oconto County, there were three males and four females in this household, five U.S. born and two German born.

The 1910 Federal Census of Wisconsin, Town of Breed, Oconto County, #58 August was a farmer born in Germany. There were nine children living at home: August, John, Willie, Alma, Lilly, Wlsie, Martha, Harry and Mabel.

August's was ill for two years. His obituary lists his death as the result of stomach cancer, stating that he suffered with dropsy for the last ten months of his life. It also states that he move to the Suring area from Chicago ten years prio to his death.

August's children's baptismal records (at St. John Lutheran Church, Hayes, WI), were listed as Koepschell, Kepschul and Kebschull.

Amelia "Emily" was the first and the youngest in her family to come to America, but not the first Kolberg to come to America. There were 20 other Kolbergs in Merica in 1870. No passenger list has been found for Emily, however, we know that she was in Staten Island, NY by 1886 b/c her first child Freidrich Carl Kebschull was born there. It is not known why "Emily" came to America. She must have either had a sponsor to work for, had a prepaid ticket or telegram from an employer, or been expected to marry. Single women were not allowed to leave the processing station alone. It is unlikely that August was the person to meet "Emily" at the processing station, since he probably would have married her right away. She would have been processed through Castle Garden in the southern tip of Manhattan, New York.

I found an engagement announcement of a William H. Kebschull and a Jacqueline Weyrick in May 1961, if that is the correct couple. She was from Ohio and he was from Eldora. He was in the Air Force. Also found their marriage dissolution in 1975. I can post both here or can email them to you. Not the best quality as they are from Newspaper Archives and not from a microfilm copy of the Hardin County Index newspaper in Eldora, Iowa. Email me at:

I saved a few things that I found in the Eldora newspaper in a Word document, which I can't post here. If you send me an email I will be happy to send you the document. There are a couple of items about a Willie/William Kebschull and his drawing as well. The most recent item was the marriage dissolution in 1975. Other items are from the 1950's and 1960 and 1961.
