McMinn Family

Surnames: McMinn, Corn, Maxwell, Green, Shipman, Robinson, Barr, Kuykendall
Please confirm the following as your ancestor: Jesse Albert McMinn b.1854 d. 1889 m. 1874 Henderson Co. NC F. M. Corn b. 1855. J. A. is buried in the Ebenezer Bapt Ch Cem.
(P.78 "Henderson Co. NC Cemeteries". The next listing to Jesse A. is { Fleta McMinn 1885 - 1931}) Is this Jesse A's wife F.M.Corn? If so the 1885 should be 1855 and if so, there should be a death certificate on file at the County Court House to identify her parents.
If this is your ancestor, his parents are: James Newton McMinn (1827-1873) and wife Malinda Maxwell (1827-1889) d/o Andrew and Elizabeth (Green) Maxwell Jr. of Virginia.
According to page 276 Old Buncombe Co. NC History - James and Malinda lived on Old Fruitland Road and their place became known as the McMinn Manor. They, too , are buried at Ebenezer Bapt Ch Cem
James is the son of Jesse L.McMinn (1806-1862) and wife Zilpha Shipman (1806-1864) Bur. Ebenezer (note - the age on her tombstone would indicate a birthyear of 1796. Her age on the 1850 Henderson Co. NC census was 44 years making a birthyear of 1806. I don't know which is correct. Perhaps a review of her tombstone would be in order.)
Jesse L. is the son of John A. McMinn (ca 1776-1806/10) and wife Elizabeth Robinson (1780-1858) d/o John and Jane (Barr) Robinson. Elizabeth is buried at Ebenezer Bapt. I would suspect that John is buried there with an unmarked stone.
John A. is the son of Robert McMinn (1749-1802. His will in Rutherford Co. NC was written 14 Apr 1797 proven Jan court 1802.) Robert McMinn married Jane Kuykendall(1751/5-1840/50) d/o the old Revolutionary War Patriot Abraham Kuykendall (1719-1812) and first wife Elizabeth (surname sometimes found as Burleson and Jones, neither of which have been proven). You might care to log on to GenForum Kuykendall Family to read of your Kuykendall ancestors.
After Robert McMinn died, his widow Jane moved to the Henderson Co. NC area to be near her father. She and her son John are on the 1800 Buncombe Co. NC census from which Henderson Co. was cut. Prior to 1830, she and and her brother James moved to Habersham Co. Ga. where she stayed for awhile before moving on to Union Co. Ga. where she is counted on the 1840 census but apparently died before 1850.
Robert McMinn was a member of the Captain Abraham Kuykendall Safety Committee in Tryon Distrist (now Lincoln and Rutherford Co.)and Militia during the Revolutionary War. Jane received a land grant in Georgia as the widow of a Revolutionary War Soldier.
Since you and I are cousins somewhat distantly (your Jane and my Jacob are siblings) you probably would appreciate knowing that on 1 February 1996, the Abraham Kuykendall Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was organized in Flat Rock, Henderson Co. NC. Later this year (2000), this chapter will place a new monument on Abraham's grave at Mud Creek Baptist Church, his original land, listing all of his children, both of his wives (Elizabeth and Bathsheba), and his correct service, etc. The marble cross marker now on his grave was placed there in 1945 by the Joseph McDowell Chapter DAR of whom member, Sadie Smathers Patton, author of the "History of Henderson Co. NC", "A Condensed History of Flat Rock"and other history related books, had researched the many Patriots of Henderson Co., Abraham being one of them. She erred in his service and his current marker reads: "Abraham Kuykendall, Corporal - Corbins North Carolina Troops - Revolutionary War", This actually was his service in the so called "Spanish Invasion"
of 1742-1748 (or Spanish Alarm as often found). I'm glad that you have taken an interest in your heritage. You may be interested in purchasing the "Heritage of Henderson Co. NC" books, Volume 1 and 2 as well as "Heritage of Rutherford Co. NC",and "Heritage of Buncombe Co. NC" Vol 1 and 2, for your personal library if they are still available. Good luck on obtaining your documents for proofs of your lineage.
Your somewhat distant cousin - Betty Kuykendall Price.

I am looking for any/and all relatives who have or are living in Hendersonville County NC, or anywhere else, and are connected by marriage or blood to a McMinn from
Hendersonville county.

My name is Richard Jesse McMinn and my father's name was Jesse Ernest McMinn and his father's name was Jesse Lee McMinn and he was born in Hendersonville county NC about 1889. Jesse Lee's father's name was Jesse Albert Mc Minn.
There was a Robert Mc Minn in Pennyselvania in 1750.

Rumor has it that three brothers left Ireland and each went
there own way sometime in the early 1700's, and that one
of them went to Austrailia

My father had no brothers or sisters.

My grandfather Jesse Lee McMimm had three brothers and one
sister. Their names were Will, Walter, Hughe (spelling?)
McMinn and Linnie nee McMinn Edwards, and they were all born in Hendersonville county NC.

I would appreciate anyone helping me tracing my roots.

Hello Margie!

I saw your message on Henderson County Query.

I have recently become a D.A.R. member (Abraham Kuykendall Chapter) and also a descendant of Abraham Kuykendall. I would be interested to know some of your background of the Kuykendalls. I'll look you up at next meeting!.

I also would like to know what set of Johnsons you are descended from. This is my family name and I have come to a stand still on this family.

Eager to hear from you.

Also, hats off to Betty K. Price as she's been the source of a lot of my Kuykendall material.

I am a member of the Abraham Kuykendall Chapter of DAR and
a descendant of Abraham Kuykendall, Joseph Kuykendall and
Ruth Guice, Phillip Allen Kuykendall and Rachel Heatherly,
Byrd Merrit Kuykendall and Mary Middleton, Arthur Jones and
Grace Myrtle Kuykendall Jones, Paul J. Hawkins and Lois
Jones, my parents. All from Henderson County, NC.

I have heard a lot about you (good) from the DAR members
and have seen some of your information on the internet.
Your information is extremely interesting to me and I hope
to get more.

Do you have any information that would link the Claude Guise
family from Europe with the family of Phillip Guise of Henderson County. I have gotten quite a lot from the internet about both, but can't find the link.

Your help would be greatly appreciated and I hope I get to
me you someday.

I saw your reply on the Henderson Co, NC forum about JOHNSON and Kuykendall. I am a Johnson. I have info about my JOHNSONs all the way back to 1564 that my Aunt Marion researched. Let me know which branch is yours and I will see if it matches anything in mine.

Thanks! Tracey

I do not know if this is the same family or not, but my mother's favorite aunt Rebecca C. Greer married George Washington McMinn (b. 1853 Mud Creek, Henderson County, NC)
on Jan. 31, 1875. They lived at Pelzer, SC and later in Greenville. George died Apr 8, 1912 and is buried in Welcome Baptist Cemetery, Greenville County, SC. The McMinns are an old Henderson County family and probably lived somewhere near the Greers, another of the old families.

Do you know the names of the children (if any) of George Washington and Henrietta Milliken McMinn? My great grandfather, Henry Grady McMinn was born between 1893 and 1895 probably in Alabama and died in the early 1940s in Arkansas. I have been told that GW McMinn is his father. Joseph McMinn traveled through NC and into TN and I believe that could be the connection to GW in NC. Thank you.
