Was browsing and saw your query about Quinns of North Carolina.
My 3-grandfather was a Loftin Quinn, born in Ireland as best I can
determine. Settled in Carteret Co. NC, in area that became Jones Co.
Had land along the Trent R. Children: Wright (my 2-gr), Caleb, Elender, Elizabeth,
and Zenas. Wright had Waitessel(my 2 Gr) George (May have been more, Im still looking. Waitessel had Charles (my gr), Robert Lester, John, Columbus, and Luther. Zenas had Mary Eliza and James Zenas -- at least.

Hope this helps.

Tom,

Thanks for your reply to my inquiry regarding
Loftin Quinn. The Loftin Quinn I'm searching
for was married to Mary Cannady and was the
father of Loftin,circa 1752, Abner,circa 1754, William Lindsay,circa 1756, Thomas,
circa 1758, and Margrett (Margaret) 1760. Is
it possible that your Loftin Quinn is Loftin
Quinn, the 2nd one? I would like to talk with you in person!!! My telephone number is
601-485-5585 in Marion, Mississippi. Please
call me collect or you can write to me at

Thanks for your input!!

Betty, sorry for the delay. The woods must have been full of Loftins. The will(Carteret Co., NC)of 1766, has the names Canady and Coale in it. There is another one for a Loftin probated in 1774. Both are on file in the NC Dept. of Archives History. I plan to be in Raleigh next week and time permitting, I will get copies of them and send you copies. The Loftin who married Olive(Ollie) Hatcher(Hatch), as best as we (my daughter Elizabeth is working with me) can gather, is our line -- and possibly the same line you are working on. The legend is that two brothers settled in a section of Carteret Co. that is now Jones Co. The old home site for the Quinns is at Comfort, NC
I'll be in touch with you later -- somehow!

The Loftin Quinn who married Olive was this in the year (1809) or later? I know George Quinn had a son named Loftin who was born around 1798 in Duplin Co. and I believe Thomas or Abner Quinn had a son named Loftin as well who was born I believe in Carteret Co. earlier probably in the late 1770s. James Quinn is my direct-line ancestor.

My 2gr-grand father was Wright who was born c.1811; Loftin was his father and Olive(Olie) Hatcher (Hatch in some sources)was his mother. The 1809 date you have would correspond as the marriage date, since Wright was the 1st child and was born c. 1811. At the time he was born, the area where they lived was Carteret Co. but is now part of Duplin and Jones . We do not have any information any further back -- do you have any? If so, I would like to have it. Other children we have listed are: Caleb, Zenas, Elander(M. Jacob Turner), and Elizabeth (M. Lewis Brock). My line is Loftin, Wright (M. Hepsey), Waitessel Loftin (M. Barbara Rhodes), and Charles (M. Mattie Houston) my grandfather. Any info you have would be appreciated.
Thanks for the reply,
Tom

I wanted to let you know that I went to Raleigh, but my meeting lasted longer than usual, and I didn't get to the Dept of Archives & History, but when I do go, I will try to get the Quinn-Cannady will and the the other document. Anthony Quinn who sent the previous reply appears to have some information. I hope to visit Kinston and Trenton soon and maybe I can learn more about Loftin. Tom

Betty, Check a message posted by "Melanie" on genforum.genealogy.com, dated 3 Oct 2000. It has an abstract of Loftin Quinn's will, which you have been wanting.
