John Garnet Lee was b. in l799 in GA and m. to a Polly LEWIS Lee. He is buried in Hinds Co. about 5 miles west of Terry, MS. He was a Mason and supposedly a lay Methodist minister. He was the father of my ggreat-grandfather Anson Pollen LEE who married Arabella Nicholson BEDWELL of HInds Co., too. Bell was the dau. of James W. BEDWELL and Mary GRIMES. I am interested in any to these LEE, LEWIS, GRIMES, BEDWELL families. The BEDWELLS are buried about l to 2 miles south of Raymond in a pasture on the east side of the road. Any information would be appreciated.

In your Lee research have you come across a Rufus/Raphus Lee who married a Rebecca Brown at Terry? I have the date of the marriage but not handy just now. They had several children. She died ca 1915, I believe, and is buried at Bethesda Baptist Church near Terry but there is no marker. I am interested in this family because her brother was my ggf, Rev. Green William Brown, son of Benjamin L. Brown. She had brothers named Fairchild and Quitman Brown, also. One of the Lee sons was named Quitman. As I said, I have more info but not handy just now.

No, I don't know anything about this Lee. However, I may not have all of John Garnet and Polly LEWIS LEE's children's names. I've never seen a name like this in my Lee files though. My John G. LEE is buried in a lone grave about 5 miles from Terry and was a lay Methodist minister and farmer. Wish I could be of more help. He was born in the early l800's and was the father of my Anson Pollen Lee, who married Arabella Nicholson BEDWELL, dau of James and Mary Grimes BEDWELL, who are buried south of Raymond, MS.

Thanks anyway. Are your Lees related to the Simpson Co. Lees? I am - in three ways! They hold a reunion at the Strong River Baptist Church near Pinola the first Sun. in June and are a great bunch of folks.

I will try to check my Lee book for any of these names and get back to you. The Garnett is familiar because I once - way back in the 50s - remember a boy in Pinola named Garnett something.

Beth, I would be greatly interested in directions to your lone grave 5 miles west of Terry, to add it to the Hinds County cemetery list. Also, the cemetery where your Bedwells are buried is known as the Futch Cemetery. It is off Highway 18 on the banks of the original Utica-Raymond Road, and was once on the Futch Plantation. The land is now owned by an ex-pro-football player named Earl Leggett, and a gravel pit has been dug right beside the cemetery, and is endangering the graves. I've asked them to be careful, and to protect the cemetery, but I doubt very seriously if he will. He has already torn down the old antebellum Futch home and built a huge trophy house close by out in the old Futch pasture. Thomas Futch was born in 1776 and ided there in 1842. His first wife was Elizabeth ___. His second wife was my ggg grandmother Margaret Riser, widow of John Adam Riser. A Futch daughter, Mary, married John W. Bedwell, and that is how all those Bedwells got buried there. If you think I can help, let me know.

Does your info include Raphus/Rufus and Rebecca Jane Brown Lee? This is the family I want to find. I also have Lee kin in Simpson Co. through my husband, a greataunt and a greatuncle.

Please let me know more about what you have. I don't know enough about this family to recognize names. Rebecca Brown was the sister of my ggf, Rev. Green William Brown.

Any help will be great.

dear marylyn,
please accept my apologies for being so long getting back to you . as far as i know rufus and ms brown aren't of ann lee's actual tree limb. her father was joseph dabbs lee, her mother was nancyann noel/newell, and this tree branches goes back to julius ceaserand mark anthony.. please give me birth and death dates if possible,as it will narrow the search down alot . there could be a connection through john w dunnahoo which is james and ann's child as he had several children also.. i will keep your reply and look farther for you as there is a rufus dunnahoo in our family . carole
