I am a descendent of Johannes Sachse of Bad Langensalza, Germany, who came to this country in 1750, and finally settled in northern Vermont (Highgate). He had numerous children, one of whom was Peter, who son in turn was Charles Jewett Saxe (my great-great-grandfather). Charles Jewett had a brother named John Godfrey Saxe - the poet. His son in turn might have been named John (my great-grandfather, John Walter Saxe, was named for his uncle. He had three children - 1900, 1902 (my grandfather) and 1905. It is quite possible he had a first cousin, also named John, was having children around the same time. I recall my uncle saying that the Saxes eventually left Vermont for Massachusetts (my great-grandfather to Boston, his brother to Worcester) and others to New York.

You might want to look up the late 19th century poet John Godfrey Saxe to find some biographical information.

The location and dates seem to correspond. This line of Saxes is German Protestant.

Don't know if this is helpful.

thank you

I have a few other names to run by you if you have the time. Could you see if there are any born Leonard, Alma Edna and Alfred from the NY line? From what I have heard they were from there before moving to CT in fact both my great grandparents lived there and have social security #s that were issued there. Any help would be great as I have nobody to ask questions of.

William Francis Saxe had one brother, Alfred Saxe. I think his father was also named Alfred Saxe. William F. was a bookkeeper for a large coffee firm in NYC, was lead tenor at church of the heavenly rest, played violin, and married a women named Elizabeth Scott (or Elizabeth Scott Douglas.) His great grandfather or grandfather married a woman whose maiden name was Keith. His father may have married an Elizabeth Saxe. The Saxe's were a very literary family. Any connections out there?

I have a partial genealogy from 1930 that would help a lot of us. I just sent it to someone on rootsweb worldconnect. I am not sure how much of it they will post or how long that will take, but I am willing to look up Saxes born before 1930.

I have a lot of info on our common ancestor, but I think you may know some things I don't. I would like to share information with you. I am interested in finding out more about his German roots and documenting, if possible his early years in this country.
