My ancestress, Clarkie Zephronia Reeder was born in Reeder's Mill, Barbour County, AL 29, Mar, 1854. Perhaps had a twin, Clarkie Sophrona Reeder, born same day, same place. Her parents are listed as Abijah (Abiga) Reeder and Mary Adkisson.

Abijah Reeder was my great-great grandfather via william Nathan Reeder, Carl Emmett Reeder and Howard Reeder. Your message cleared up a mystery. I thought Sophronia and Zephonia were same person, but misspelled. I have a fair amount of material on the Reeders of Barbour County and just this week gained strong evidence they were in Wadesboro, Anson, N.C. before arriving in Barbour County by 1833. Family lore had always told me Raleigh, Wake County, N.C. Can you shed any light? Will be glad to share. Jim Reeder

I am also descended from Abijah Reeder and Mary Adkisson through another daughter, Alcey E., who was married to Ashley Hicks. I have the transcriptions on their tombstones, if you want them.
In the 1870 Barbour Co. AL census, I find that living near Abijah and Mary is a Clarky Adkisson, 44 F. This possibly could be Mary Adkisson Reeder's sister-in-law.

I am in search of the parents of James M. Hicks, father of Ashley. James M. Hicks was married to Martha J. Helms.

To add a bit of interest to this is that Clarkie Reeder's first husband, Hugh Hardy is a son of Jim Allen Hardy and Elizabeth Hicks.......Contact me at

I have just come across some info on D.W. DuBoseII in some history I have on the DuBose's. It says that he was in 1784 waiting for his land grant he was too old when it finally came thru however it went to his sons. D.W. III went to Mississippi, his next bro. in age chose Alabama, and the third chose the Ill. territory. I will be more than happy to send you a copy of what I have if you would like. Our family is from the Mississippi DW. Reply to Hope this helps.

Ruby Noreen Reeder is the great granddaughter of Abijah Reeder and Mary E. Adkison. Her father is Albert Beamon Reeder, her mother Aulsie Pitts. Noreen married Herman Gulledge in 1929, they had one child, I believe Janice Gulledge. Herman died from a shotgun injury that he received while climbing over a fence carrying a gun. Noreen then married Ira Horace Braswell, they had no children.

Noreen is my 'Aunt Noreen', my father Daniel Britt Reeder was her brother. I have more family history of the Reeder's and Tew's, and pictures. Please contact me if this is the family you are interested in.

Abijah Reeder is my ggggrandfather. I also have a fair amount of history on this family. Anything in particular you're searching for? I'm interested in all aspects, family stories and photos particularly.
My grandfather was Carl Emmett Reeder>William Nathan Reeder>Abijah Reeder>William Reeder. The last one brought the family from Carolinas to Barbour County, Al where they appear on the 1833 special census. JIM
