I am researching the Quinto family from South Carolina. Samuel Quinton Sr. b. 1717 in Chester Co. SC married Mary Humphrey daughter of Thomas Humphrey. They had son Samuel Jr. who married Jane (?). They had son's Samuel b. 1803 who married Lydia Crittenden, James who married Jane Keton, William A. Quinton who married Eliza (?), Joseph, Daniel, and Henry who married Sarah Consene. I would like to connect with anyone who might know more about the Humphrey family and Keton family. I found James Quinton in Cherokee Co. Ga. married to a Parmelia. When did 1st wife Nancy die? James and Nancy were the parents of Narcissa who married Thomas G. Barnett in Cherokee Co. 1854. Sharon

Great Grandmother was LUDIA CRITTENDON, sibling of JOE and LEVA
10/06/1878 and ten products of that marriage:LEAMON,LIZZIE,PATRICK,

LEWIS CRITTENDON was product of marriage between HENRY CRITTENDON

This has been a difficult name to locate. Also, year-before-last
my daughter-in-law were just playing with searches and found a
record of a marriage between a QUINTON (her maiden name) and
CRITTENDON, somewhere in the Northeastern States, I think New
York, which is where most of her family is.

I think we have links.

Can't be sure there is a relationship, but I
did find that a William A. Quinton, born in S.C.
about 1807 married Eliza Kinsey and had 11 children.
The names Henry, Samuel, William, and George
keep qppearing in my family search, and I am
hopeful that one one these 11 children may be
the one I am looking for for the link to the
rest of my family. The first I can d ocument is
Hugh W. my gg-great grandfather, father of
my g-grandfather, Thomas N. who wqs father of
my grandfather, George Henry. I had great uncles
William Truman and James Everett and many more
1/2 relatives. Any help?

This isn't really in reference to your question as I haven't started research on the women yet but I doubt that Samuel was born in 1717. We all got that from completely incorrect information at the Family History Center. I think our research is being thrown off by continuing to work with that date. Since Samuel and Mary's children were born in the 1760's it seems to me that we should be looking for his birth in the mid 1730'sto 1740.

My info shows Hugh W Quinton to have been in Barbour County Alabama in the 1860 census.
Family talk says that his mother was from South Carolina, and
Hugh's adult family moved to Barbour County.
Not sure of the date or the point of origin.
He was married to Mary ? and had 10 children.
5 sons, 5 daughters.

My great-great grandfather Hugh W. Quinton was
born in 1822, in S.C. or possibly in TN. He
first shows in the 1850 census of Walker Co, GA
married to Mary A. Cooper. in 1869 moved to Barbour Co,
Alabama. Connection?

That county was named Murray in the 1830's. From my notes I have James Quinton moving from Gwinett to Murray County in 1834. He had 4 family members at that time. In 1830 James was lised in Guinett Co with 1 male 20-30, 1 female U-5 and 1 female 20-30. In 1824-27 James is listed as a Lieut in De Kalb Co GA. This is from the GA State Archives Military Records. His brother William is listed in the De Kalb military in 1827.
In 1836 Samuel Quinton and his heirs deded land in Cobb (or Cass, it's hard to read but it's probably Cobb -De Kalb) Co to Jess Miller. Signing were Samuel Q Sr. Samuel Q Jr., James Q, William Q, Henry Q, Nathanial Q and John Q who was the heir and representative of Joseph Q.
These sons of Samuel Sr. were all born in South Carolina.
Samuel Senior had 3 brothers. They were Andrew, James and John.
I've seen the names of your Hugh's children and the naming patterns are similar to these familys. Your family used the name Andrew. Also the name Lewis is used heavily in the SC Quintons. My ancestor Henry named his son Lewis as did several others. If I were you I would try to find out who James Quinton's children were. Since he was in Murray County he seems like the most likely parent or grandparent for your Hugh.
