Looking for info on a William Riley Bonds who married a Cherokee Indian by the name of Sarah Bradberry. Marriage would have been in the South (i.e. Carolinas, Georgia or Alabama)in the early 1800s. Trying to trace my Cherokee Indian heritage to Sarah Bradberry. She is not on the Dawes Rolls so she could be an Eastern Band Cherokee.

Thanks for the info. My family's original roots are in Ireland and they came to the USA and settled in the south. William Riley Bonds was my great, great, grandfather who married a Cherokee Indian named Sarah Bradberry. They lived in Georgia and had a son named Alvin Webster Bonds. I'm trying to determine the names of the other children. There is an Archibald Bonds who may be their son, who shows on the Dawes Rolls which is the official registration of Cherokee Indians who were later relocated to Oklahoma. My research does indicate that William Bonds was a common name in the south.

Robert: What can you tell me about Sarah Bradberry?Do you know anything about her parents? My ggggrandmother was Nancy Bradberry she was full blood Cherokee she married James Churchman in Jefferson County Tennessee October 9 1815, i wonder if Sarah and Nancy could be related? I do not know anything about her parents where they came from or where Nancy was born. The story in my family is that Nancy's parents were part of the many Cherokee family's that voluntarily removed themselves west, she ran away and ended up at the farm house of William Churchman, they took her in and it was shortly after when she married their son James. This would have been around 1815. Nancy died about 1846 in Carroll County Tn. You and Wayne Armisted are the first people i have found with Bradberry ancestors who were Cherokee. Please let me know what you think.

Am researching my Bonds releatives and ran accross a William R. Bonds who was in Co.F, 34th Regiment and from Forysth County, Ga. I have not been able to find him in the federal census for Forysth Co. That county is where my grandfather, John M. Bonds was married and lived and where my father was born. There was always rumor that our family had cherokee blood but unfortunately, I am at a dead end. If any of this connects with you, please let me know. Hope the information can help you.

Archibald Bonds could be son of John Bonds who died before 1814. John was son of Dudley Bonds and Francis Meredith. In Dudley's will he names Archibald and James the sons of John to get land in Laurens Co., S.C. Dudlely Bonds lived in Newberry Co.,S.C. I believe an Archie Bonds can later be found in GA.
