My last name is Mazo, but Mozo is another spelling of same. Am just starting to search ancestors. My immediate ancestores came from Russia in the early 1900's. Before they settled there, they could have come from anywhere. Some of the "family?" did settle in So Carolina/new york area.Do know that my grandfathers brothers did go to NYin 1900's. Where any members of your family Rabbi's or in that time called scholars/teachers?

Believe my ancestors were Jews who lived in Spain 1490's refused to convert and relocated to central europe.
Eventually, decendants relocated to New York in early 1900's and Canada in the 1920's.

Hello! I realize your post is from several years ago, so I hope you won't mind that I am replying to it. My grandfather's name was Jacob Joseph Mazo, and I believe that he came to NY sometime in the 1920's (give or take). He and several members of his family were Rabbi's. Different members of the family spell their last name "Mazo" or "Maza", probably depending on how whomever processed them through immigration chose to spell their names (when putting their Hebrew names into English).

Please let me know if you think there is a connection between our two families. Thank you!

Wow that's really interesting... Well if that's the same Sam then I guess we are related. What is your mom's name? And where do you live? This is pretty cool. Is your mom Jewish?
