If i am not mistaken, there is a butler smith burried at pleasant hill cemetary in lasalle parish. (sometine between 1900 and 1910
catahoula was split up..thats why catahoula lake is in lasalle.)
I will try to remember to check the nect time i am out there.

If he is, it is most likely he came here from carolina via brookhaven miss.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. I hope you are safe and sound and miles away from Katrina's destruction.

I have a document called "The Catahoula Smiths" that lists John Smith(ca1795-1843) and Elizabeth Lacy(ca1805-1844) as the parents of Charles Butler Smith. You can email me direct at candh@coho.net for more info.
Which child of Charles Butler is your line? My husband descends from Minnie Mae Smith who married Fred P. Zeagler.

Okay, will email.

My 2nd great grandfather is Andrew Jackson Smith (1876-1950). Then to Andrew's son William, to my "pawpaw" Oscar, to my dad, then me.
