Hi, my name is Rebekah Keeney and I am just starting to try and find information about my grandparents who passed away recently. George Yancy Keeney was my grandfather from Waynesville, Missouri. He was married to Priscilla Fern Keeney and I am trying to find any information about his father and mother's name so I can begin my history search. We think his father's name might have been Marion but we are not positive. Right now I have nothing to go by and any information you might have would be very helpful. Please contact me at: Thank you!

With your ancestor being from Waynesville, there are a couple of lines your family might come from (although they eventually run together with Peter Keeney). The Keeneys from Maries and Osage Counties just north of St. James are descendants of Michael Keeney. The Keeneys south of St. James in Phelps and Texas Counties are descendants of Moses Keeney (I think).

If you could be more specific about the time frame for your ancestors (i.e. when were they living) it would be easier to help narrow your search.

You are correct, Rob. The Keeney's living in Texas County, Mo are descended from Peter's son, Moses Keeney. I descend from his son Abner Martin Keeney.

I think I have your information on George Yancy Keeney. In my records, I have him as being a son of Francis Marion Keeney and Laura Riden Keeney. Francis was the grandson of Moses and Catherine Stogsdill Keeney. I will e-mail you further information.

My name is Russ Keeney and I believe I am a descendant of Moses Keeney, but things get obscure between my grandfather (I believe his name was either Edward or William) and the person I think is his father, William C. Keeney. Also going further back, I can not get further than Moses father. Could you help find any such info?

The two William Keeney's are my grandfather and great-grandfather. My great-grandfather traveled from Kentucky and settled in Carter county in Missouri around the turn of the century. He and my grandfather are listed in the missouri 1910 census as living on carter creek. Grandfather went by Edward so people in the area could tell them apart by name.

Did you find the information that you were looking for on Marion Keeney? He was a brother to my Grandfather, Abner Martin Keeney, who lived in Phelps and Texas Co., Missouri most of his life. Uncle Marion, as everyone in my family called him, lived in a little house on the highway between Licking and Rolla Missouri. I remember seeing him sitting on the front porch. I was pretty young, but I do remember him. I can't remember the name of the little town though. I'll remember one of these days and let you know. My sister got a speeding ticket there once. I just remembered it, it is Edgar Springs, Missouri. He is probably buried near there somewhere. Let me know if this helps you any.
