I have been unable to determine who Elizabeth Fuller born 1626/27 was married to. Records for the Crippen family state that Moses Crippen was married to Elizabeth Fuller, the daughter of Matthew New Fuller and Frances Iyde. Information on the Moses Rowley state that he was married to Elizabeth Fuller the daughter of Capt Matthew Fuller and Frances Iyde. Which is correct? Both cannot be since The Crippens had a son Thomas born 1650 and The Rowleys had a daughter born 1652 who coincidentally married. Both Moses Crippin and Moses Rowley died after 1700. I would appreciate any help on this.

Ok I figured it out :-)

There are 3 legitimate Elizabeth Fullers. This is what I have found:

Begin with Moses Crippen. He was married to Elizabeth Fuller (born 04 APR 1626, died 20 JUL 1655, Daughter of Matthew Fuller and Frances Iyde). She is the first Elizabeth Fuller.

Moses Crippen and Elizabeth Fuller had a son named Thomas Crippen, and he married Frances Bray. Thomas is the only child of Moses and Elizabeth. Thomas and Frances had some children, among whom are Jabez Crippen, Mary Crippen, and Katherine Crippen. Here is where it gets weird.

Jabez Crippen married Thankful Fuller (daughter of John Fuller and Mehitable Rowley).

Mary Crippen married Moses Rowley Jr.
Katherine Crippen married Shubael Rowley.

Moses Rowley Jr. and Shubael Rowley are brothers. The parents of Moses Rowley Jr. and Shubael Rowley are Moses Rowley Sr, and Elizabeth Fuller (born 1635, died 7 March 1715, daughter of Capt Matthew Fuller and Frances Hyde). So that is Elizabeth Fuller #2.

Now for the third Elizabeth Fuller. So when Katherine Crippen married Shubael Rowley, they had a daughter named Elizabeth Rowley. Elizabeth Rowley (born 1694) ended up marrying Edward Fuller (Thankful's brother, or in other words, her uncle in law, if such a thing as an uncle in law existed.). So then she became the third legitimate Elizabeth Fuller.

The websites I used to collect this information is as follows:

Hope this helps!

And even furthermore, something I realized I left out --

So Mehitable Rowley (married to John Fuller) is also the sister of both Moses Rowley Jr. and Shubael Rowley. The parents of Mehitable, Moses Jr, and Shubael are Moses Rowley Sr. and Elizabeth Fuller.

Mehitabel and John Fuller had a son named Edward Fuller. Edward Fuller married the daughter of Mehitable's brother Shubael (she is the third Elizabeth Fuller).

So there you have first cousins getting married. Fun :-)

I too, find the case of Elizabeth Fuller very confusing, especially since I have two in my tree, one married to Moses Crippen and the other to Moses Rowley, both said by you and others to be daughter of Matthew Fuller and Frances Iyde. They have different birth/death dates as you pointed out, 1626-1655 for Crippen's wife and Elizabeth Fuller (1626-1715) for Rowley. I don't think both Elizabeths could have the same parents.

Another Elizabeth Fuller, whose details often get mixed with the other two, was Elizabeth Fuller who married a man named Upson in 1646 or 47, and her daughter died in 1655 of small pox. (Same death date as their daughter Sarah Fuller Crippen). She then married Edmund Scott. Many family trees show her as the daughter of Matthew Fuller. Sigh.

Thank you for your efforts to sort it out.

Just to add a little more information (and hopefully, add clarity -- not more complication!): there were two Matthew Fullers who are routinely confused with each other. The birth records at Redenhall, Norfolk, England show that Matthew Fuller, son of _John_ Fuller, was born there in 1603. This is _not_ Capt. Matthew Fuller, one of the two sons of Mayflower passenger _Edward_ Fuller and his wife (name unknown, though often claimed to have been Ann). Capt. Matthew Fuller -- surgeon as well as militia officer -- was born about 1605, almost certainly at Redenhall, but we have no record of his birth.

Part of the confusion between these two Matthews comes because _each one married a woman named Frances_. But we do not know the maiden surname of the wife of Capt. Matthew Fuller. The other Matthew -- evidently a cousin of the good Captain -- is apparently the Matthew who married Frances Hyde.

And it would appear that both couples had daughters named Elizabeth. What has been accepted for years by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants is that Elizabeth Fuller -- born about 1630, presumably in England; daughter of Capt. Matthew Fuller and Frances (Unknown) Fuller -- married Moses Rowley, Sr. (These are my ancestors.) The Elizabeth Fuller who married first Thomas Upson, and then married second Edmund Scott, _may_ be a daughter of the other Matthew Fuller and wife Frances (Hyde) Fuller.

Several of us who do a lot of work on WikiTree have been trying to sort this out for many months now. We appreciate all assistance in correcting the online record, and distinguishing between the two Matthews, the two Franceses -- and their daughters!
