German handwriting, Double "s" in Gasser ?

I found some old church documents that show a name on my family tree that looked like Gafser but another relative thought it could be the way they write the double "s" in German. Has anyone seen old documents with the name Gasser that I could compare mine?

My family is from Graubunden, Switzerland. Most from a small town called Haldenstein where I found all the great church records.

I know it has been a long time since your post so you may already have your answer, but I was looking through the Gasser boards and saw your query. Yes a double s in German is sometimes written with a "ß" called an Eszett.

Thank you for your response. I'm going to post the document here and maybe you can read it. Wondering if the last name is Gafser or Gasser. Thanks so much for your help!

In old style writing (early 1800’s) a double ‘s” was normally written as what looks life “fs”. The practice started dying out by the mid 1800’s but sometimes people would still use it. (Old habbits)
