Granville - Emily Gertrude Akerstrom, formerly of Macedonia, Ohio, died at the age of 99 on January 20, 2019, at Middleton Senior Living.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Granville on February 23, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.

Emily was born in Macedonia, Ohio, to Carl and Jennie Wendt on May 14, 1919.
She received a BA from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1941 and married her college sweetheart, John Akerstrom, on December 25, 1941.
In 1949, after moving around the country during and after the war, Emily and John established their permanent home in Macedonia, OH where they raised their five children and where Emily taught kindergarten in the Nordonia Hills School System.
In 1992, they moved to Granville, Ohio to be closer to family.
Emily was an active and beloved member of the community and the First Presbyterian Church of Granville; she also volunteered with the Granville Historical Society and the Newark-Granville Alumnae Club of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

Emily is preceded in death by her husband, John A. Akerstrom, and her son, John D. Akerstrom.

Emily is survived by her daughter, Nancy Graham; son, Bill Akerstrom (Margaret); daughter, Susan Tarr (Patrick); daughter, Sally Bailey (Mike); daughter-in-law, Pamela Akerstrom (John's widow); 9 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Granville

Victim: John David Akerstrom

John David Akerstrom was an electrical engineer who lived in Medina, Ohio with his wife Pam and two children, Jennie and Jared.
John's favorite way to spend time at home was with his adored family. He also left behind his parents John and Emily Akerstrom and his sister Nancy Graham.

Nancy described John by saying "There didn't seem to be anything that John couldn't do well - he was creative with his hands, he was musical, he was athletic, and he was very intelligent."
