Mary Love Havis

1. Mary Love Havis, born about 1830 in Pierce's Spring, Mississippi married Brazeall T. Harris, born about 1830 in Wayne County. [ This comes from their daughter, Mary Emma's (20 June 1877, Frost Bridge, Wayne County) delayed birth certificate filed in Robertson County, Texas.]
2. Her last born sibling, Caroline (Callie) Rebecca was born about 1882. She married my husband's grandfather, Havey Reid Ross in Robertson County, Texas.
3. B. T. was a blacksmith. He seems to have died between 1884 and 1888 in, according to family history, an accident at a logging or lumber mill in Wayne County. He probably was buried at Frost Bridge, but most of that cemetery has floated down Buckatunna Creek!
4. I have checked census and other records, until I am blue in the face, attempting to determine it Mary's maiden name was Love or Havis! The strongest clue so far to her being a Havis is that one of her 10 children (only 3 were living in 1877according to Mary Emma) was William Obediah Harris with whom she moved to Robertson County. The other children who moved to the county at the same time were Mary Emma and Caroline Rebecca. Another child, a daughter, Frances Caroline, married a McEachern and remained in Mississippi.
5. The 1880 wayne county census shows BT as 47, born in AL and a farmer; Mary L., 40, born in AL (parents SC & TN);
Obediah B. [William Obediah], 24 & born in Miss; Frances C. [Fannie], 23 and born in Miss; Lucretia, 15 and born in Ala; Edward, 9 and born in Miss; Robert, 11 and born in Ala; Elijah, 7 and born in Ala; and Mary E., 3, born in Miss.
Any assistance or clues will be received with joy! Wayne county, as you probably know, had six courthouse fires and Frost Bridge was on Buckatunna Creek, as well as being on the Alabama border.

1. Caroline Rebecca was Mary and B. T. 's las born child, not sibling...sorry about the goof.
2. In 1850 in Wayne County, Mississippi on page 257b there
are Abraham Havis (20, born Ala.), Thomas [Havis] (16, born Ala.,) and Mary [Havis] (13, born Ala.) living with Mary Fletcher, age 70 and Mary L. [Fletcher] age 35. The Mary is about the right age to be my husband's great-grandmother. I have been unable [so far] to find anything on an Abraham Havis, born in Alabama.

More information on Mary Love Havis:
1. Daughter Mary Emma Harris, born 20 June 1877 filed
for a delayed birth certificate in Robertson County, Texas in 1942. One of the two persons certifying the facts of her
birth was Mrs. Nancy C. Bishop, wife of Denson Denroe Bishop and (according to World Cat) daughter of Caroline Nancy Morrison and William C. Collier. However, there are
(typical of Robertson County) some major problems with the certification as the first certifier, her brother William Obediah, died in 1924 and Nancy Caroline Bishop died about 2 weeks
before the certification.
2. According to the certification, B. T. and Mary Love Havis Harris had 10 children including Mary Emma and only 3 were alive at the time of the certification. I know about the following
children: William Obediah (also called Obediah B.), Frances
Caroline who married a McEachern, Lucretia, Edward, Robert,
Elijah, and Mary Emma. This leaves 3 unaccounted.
3. In the 1850 Wayne County Mississippi census on page 256b there are Abraham Havis, 20, born Ala; Thomas Havis,
16, born Ala.; and Mary Havis, 13, born Ala; living with Mary Fletcher, age 71, born in Tennessee and Mary L. (Fletcher?), 35, born Ala. Next door, living with thomas Looney? is Charity Havis, 8, born in Ala. This is the closest I have found
on a census to Jim's Mary Love Havis Harris.
4. Mary Emma's delayed birth certificate says her mother, Mary Love Havis, was born in Pierces Spring, Mississippi which is in Clarke county. Another Alabama border county and not very far from Frost Bridge (just above Shabuta.)
I have been unable, so far, to locate further information
on Abraham Havis.
